Guys Weekend in Myrtle Beach
 

I'm going to be in Myrtle in late April with 3 of my closest friends. They're all turning 40 this year so I want to plan one VERY cool night. Any ideas? Would love some good restaurant recommendations too.

In Myrtle Beach you're walking a thin line between tacky and fun. What kind of cool night are you talking about?

My favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach is Thoroughbreds in North Myrtle Beach. It is fantastic. If you want good seafood, I would go to Murrells Inlet for the best seafood in the area. I like Nance's and Lee's Inlet Kitchen for more casual dining.

My DH always tries to convince me that Thee Doll House is a chicken restaurant! He says they have very large and nice breasts there...or so he has heard!!! Yeah, right!

If you are staying in North Myrtle, I recommend seafood at Captain George's. It is around $25 a person, but is my favorite MB restaurant. It is also located at Broadway at the beach (sorry, I'm too old to know what "VERY cool means ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions so far! Runlong ... I know what you mean about the line between tacky and fun in MB though!

By cool ... I'm talking about something that the 4 of us will be able to talk about for a LONG time. I want to treat these guys like VIPs or rock stars for a night.

Let me open the floodgates a bit further and say that for this night ... money is no object!!!

A rock star can party in a lot of ways, right? If I were you I'd stay away from the so-called "strip". Meaning that your 40 year old friends will look very little like VIPs while hanging out with 16 year olds with fake IDs.

Depending on the kind of music you like, you might want to see what the House of Blues has going on while you're there. There are lots of bars and pubs and restaurants that cater to any taste.

Again I like Thoroughbreds because the wine list is exceptional and the steaks to die for. I was there on an expense account, so we had a great time. If it was on my own dime, I probably would have passed.

My suggestion if money is no object, is to go to Las Vegas not MB. I love MB, but memorable night for 40 yr olds might be beyond what it has to offer. If it has to be MB, best nightlife (bars and such) are at Broadway at the Beach.

I was just thinking the same thing as lovestogo. When I think of a place to have a night to remember, with money being no object, Myrtle Beach isn't where I would choose. I definitely think Vegas is a better option, unless of course there is some reasno that it has to be Myrtle Beach.

I agree with Ethel and others. I think the only "nightlife" MB has to offer is either "family-friendly" (and, therefore, not "cool" or "memorable") or it's of the strip-club variety.

Greenie only has one night so I'm guessing Vegas is out of the question.

Firstly, rent a limo, don't drive.

Agree with runlong, start your evening at Thoroughbreds for a fabulous long dinner. After, head across the street to Thee Doll House (strip club).

After that, head to Town Square on about 77th Avenue North and Kings Highway. Local bar, high end, minimalist chic.

From there, head to Broadway At The Beach and bar hop at Revolutions, Froggy Bottoms, etc.

If you are still upright at this point, finish the night at Club Cryptonite on the corner of 29th and 17 Bypass (it is across the street from Broadway at the Beach and is the old All Star Cafe).

I didn't realize it was only 1 night. In that case, I think GoT's plan is the best.

unfortunately the last rock stars night out in MB took place about 20 years ago, when the Stones played here.

If you truly have one night, GoTravel's plan sounds like a winner.

A couple of minor corrections, the Town Square she mentioned is actually called City Bar now (used to be part of a complex of clubs with the Town Square name in the heart of MB).

And Thoroughbreds is between MB and NMB; you might get a confused look if you refer to Thoroughbreds as being in NMB.

One addition, go to a great seafood tapas place, about as hip as MB gets, called Sea Blue (in NMB on 17, across from Home Depot/Wal-Mart shopping center).

Finally, although I love Thoroughbreds, you could also consider Aspen Grill (in MB on KIngs Highway at about 50th Avenue North)--great food, and just a little more of a contemporary feel IMHO.
