Gurneys Inn - Montauk Long Island

Has anyone stayed here recently? The location looks great but the little I can learn about the rooms, well they sound OLD (style, condition, ammenities). Sounds maybe ok for summer time fun, but for a trip in September the room condition would be more important. Anyone have any current feedback?

No current feedback, just wanted to say I went there as a little kid, maybe about 5 years old. That was 40 years ago. Hopefully, the rooms have been updated since then... :) I haven't heard this place mentioned in years. Have you checked trip advisor?

Skiller Aug 28th, 2010 02:15 PM

Checked Trip Advisor - 1/3 of the reviews were BAD and 2/3 were good, but people I know say "oh it's beautiful" but when I ask them for details it turns out that they never actually stayed there. Thought I would try to get some more input from people who have actually stayed there recently. Thanks for your feedback!

My sister spends her anniversary there every year. It's clean and in good condition, she's happy. What's wrong with old?

It's overpriced for what they offer. Look at "travelers photos" on the tripadvisor review page. The location is great but it's a glorified motel with circa 80's decor. http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationP....html#26114243

Thanks christabir. I appreciate your comments. I was having problems getting a real fix on "old" vs. "not well maintained - shabby" from all the comments I was reading. I am appreciating all the input.

Thanks also mclaurie. I am appreciating all the help I can get on this. The beach looks great but wasn't sure about the interior. I will check out the photo links you sent me. Skiller

Thanks very much pgoclac1234. Not married to Montauk. Got the reference from a few folks who said "it's beautiful" but turns out they never actually sayed at Gurneys. Gurneys website is awful, too, and has virtually NO pictures of the interior - which made me very suspicious. I will also check out your suggestion. Skiller

If you're interested in the south fork of LI, there are a lot of other options. If you don't need a fancy hotel with spa, the only real benefit of Gurney's imo, there are plenty of other options both in Montauk and in the Hamptons. The Panoramic View is also on the ocean and recently redone. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev..._New_York.html

If you want something more upscale, The Reform Club in Amagansett is supposed to be fabulous although not right on the beach. http://reformclubinn.com/main.html East Hampton Point is also very nice.

What exactly are you looking for?

I actually make it out to Gurney's every summer for at least a few days to enjoy the spa and beach. As far as the room goes they are slightly outdated but the bathrooms are all very nice and overall the room is clean and above average. If you are interested in true, modern, 5 star type rooms than Gurney's probably isn't the place for you but if you can deal with average rooms and very good accommodations I think you'd enjoy it. Hope that helps!
