Guide book on Maui?
I am looking for a guide book about Maui. I have been several times with kids but am now going for 10 days just with husband. We are looking to do some non-touristy things as well as the usual tourist things. There are so many books out there I'm not sure which one to get. I have heard Maui Revealed is good although I'm not sure they have any restaurants in it. Any advice appreciated!

You only need one guide book for Maui -- Maui Revealed!

Maui Revealed DOES have restaurant suggestions. They even have a website that updates their book (including restaurant updates), but you have to have the book (and the code inside the book) in order to access the "updates" page of the website. The authors of Maui Revealed take no advertising, or sponsorship to produce their book, and so they can be frank and honest about their suggestions. If someplace is a dive, or if some area has marginal snorkeling at certain times of the year, they tell you without hesitation. I followed their advice for our trip and found them to be 99.99 % accurate in their assessments.

Definitely get Maui Revealed. It's all you need.

If your interests run to sightseeing and /or photography, consider Richard Sullivan's "Driving and Discovering Hawaii: Maui and Molokai." It gives very detailed, descriptive driving tours of the various areas of Maui (and Molokai), along with beautiful photographs. Further, it shows the exact location where the author took each picture. It's comprehensive enough to show both the touristy and non-touristy places, with emphasis on the latter. I haven't found anything quite like it.
Supplement it with a Fodor's or Frommer's guide for information about hotels, restaurants, and touristy things and you'll have all the guidebook information you'll need. |
Hi marya - Take a look at Fodor's Hawaii 2006 before you go. Yes, I know that I'm biased, but the book really does have everything you need to know about sights and activities on the island, as well as great restaurant reviews. And we've just revised the book with new features on everything from the Road to Hana to the best destinations on Maui for wine-lovers. All of our writers are locals who give you the insider's perspective.
Have a great trip and enjoy some memorable meals. |
