You might get more help if you break this post up in paragraphs and make your questions easier to find. ;)

It takes about 20-30 mins to walk the Brooklyn bridge at a reasonable pace.

Mapquest.com can answer all your distance questions. Hopstop.com is another helpful website.

The Downtown Alliance Website (www.downtownNY.com) is a wonderful website for downtown Manhattan.

Just stay on Fulton Street to get from South Street Seaport from St. Pauls.

The Financial District and downtown is my favorite part of New York City. I think it has the most history of any part of NYC.

George Washington was sworn in as the first President of the United States on the steps of the Federal Building. It is catty-corner to the NYSE which is an imposing building itself.

Order the free guidebooks and maps from the Downtown Alliance website.

A few suggestions:

Monday is chock full. It might be late afternoon before you even get back over the bridge to Manhattan. You could either walk across and up to Tribeca, or stay East and walk north from the bridge to Chinatown, LES and, Nolita. Some of the LES/Nolita boutiques stay open later than most stores. If you see things you like, you could return more leisurely the next day.

On Tuesday, an efficient option is to start at Soho, head a bit west into the West Village, up Hudson (taking detours onto a few side streets incl. Bleecker) then further north to the Meatpacking district/West 14th Street. Some shops in both the latter neighborhoods are often tucked away on small streets, so a map would be helpful. Try cutting across from Hudson to WAshington Street, which is still cobblestoned and has 2-3 housewares stores that have unique merchandise. 14th Street still have a few galleries in addition to shopping. Then head further up to the Chelsea market - cool building redo, and lots of places to have a snack. Then pick a couple of midtown destinations for the rest of the day: maybe Rock Center, which is more west.

Grand Central, main library branch and Chrysler Building are within blocks of each other, so group them together. From there (42nd St) it's a quick walk to MoMA up Fifth Avenue.

Sounds like you better wear comfortable walking shoes :-)
