Is there a BBQ place in/near/around a lot of trees? Sounds silly, I know.........

The only place I can think of in Gruene is The Grist Mill. It does have outdoor dining on the banks of the Guadalupe River and there are plenty of trees. It may have BBQ but it's not a BBQ restaurant.

I would suggest you post this question on Chowhound.com. Lots of foodies on there and they'll probably come up with the right place. Have you been there before? Will you recognize the name?

Yes there is. I can't remeber the name of it but it's right up the hill from the "Rockin' R" river tubing headquarters. We go there every year after getting off our tubes!!

I second the Grist Mill. It has great food, and the atmosphere is nice outdoors. You can sit outside amidst the trees and watch people down on the Guadalupe. Here is their website if you want to check it out: http://www.gristmillrestaurant.com/

I can't remember the name either, but it is at the top of the hill from the river...a few doors down from The Gristmill.
