Hotel Recommendations in Las Vegas

We are thinking about taking our teens aged 13 and 15 to Las Vegas over fall break. We are thinking 2 or 3 nights.

I haven't been to Vegas in over 18 years. The hotels I am thinking about are:
Luxor,Venetian, Mirage,Wynn or Caesers Palace.

We like nice hotels and are not opposed to paying for them.

Any suggestions?

I love the Wynn. It's gorgeous.

Venetian is great too. I'd pick those two first.

As a teen Caesars could be better.

Those are the ones I like!

Thanks for the info.

I am assuming Caesers has renovated since we last stayed there. It was a little tired.

Does the Wynn have a nice pool area? I know they will want to swim and soak up the sun, but also tour.

because there is SO much to do and the location is great, I'd say Caesars. Get a room in the Augustus tower. If they're baseball fans, Pete Rose is there 15 days/mo in the Forum Shops signiing autograph$.

I've only stayed in the Venetian, but I'll be staying at the Wynn next month.

The rooms at both are huge, I think Venetian is around 750 sq. ft and Wynn 650 sq. ft. The Venetian room has a sunken LR, bathrooms are marble-very similar to the Ritz in design and decor. It's rather like a small apartment sans kitchen.

Security at the Venetian is excellent with cameras everywhere, even in the room corridors. I suppose it's like that in most of the high-end properties.

Not a gambler, so I can't compare casino experience.

Venetian spa is beautiful and service professional, as expected.

Probably can't go wrong in either property.

The Wynn is the Latest Thing in Over-the-Top Resorts in Las Vegas these days, and that works for many people. It's new, and that's the only important factor. It has a nice pool area, the amenity level is very high, it's a big hit in the "Look At Me I'm In an Expensive Hotel!" crowd. Steve Wynn's relentless self-promotion bugs me, so I'm resistant to the Wynn's charms.

The Luxor is way down in south Strip, and frankly its theming is lame. I assume you put it on your short list for the kids; they might like it. It's very gimmicky and cheesy, but....

The Venetian is very nice; it might be a bit stuffy for the kids. I love Mirage-- excellent service, elegant rooms without being too ostentatious-- and it has a superior pool area, but that elegance may translate into "stuffy" for the kids. Caesar's Palace is tacky fun, although you might find a few "working girls" in the public areas after dark, and the onsite nightclub gets a rowdy crowd.

I'm not going to comment on the "bringing kids to Vegas" thing. It stirs up too much controversy.

The Wynn is by far the nicest hotel on the Strip, but is it the best for teens? I don't know.

They might prefer the Venetian.

If you must bring the kids...

I would probably go for the Luxor for the very factors an earlier poster suggested. They also have a pretty neat arcade...although I have not been in it in a year. If you want quiet and decent, check out the Monte Carlo. The Wynn and the Venetian are not kid friendly IMHO. Caesars is on the edge of kid friendliness.

Honestly the more expensive/fancier the Vegas hotel is, the less they want the family business. There is a reason the Bellagio has or had stringent rules about that.

Wynn and Venetian both have awesome pools.

I don't think the Wynn is stuffy. I think it's just NICE.

It is clean and the service is very nice. The florals are gorgeous.

Venetian is great too.

Wynn has a huge pool area. It's my fave that is for sure.

I'd go for Ceasars bc of location. It is in the middle of everything, very centrally located on the strip. To walk everywhere is very difficult, bc the casinos are so huge and much further away than they all appear.

I don't think 13 and 15 is what I would call "kids". They are old enough to know how to behave and to enjoy the flash and magnitude of LV, and some of the things it has to offer, such as food, shopping, bling, flash, entertainment, and people watching. And the pools.

Two nights IMO, is plenty. After a while LV starts getting to you...the noise, the tacky, the fake. I can't stay longer than two nights. Just sensory overload...Plus there are so many things that the young men can't do in the town, it isn't as fun as you might think, from their point of view (this is from a friend of mine who just took her two boys about the same age as yours.) My OD doesn't want to go until she is 21, so she can really enjoy LV...

Bellagio Penthouse suite is totally suitable. Not only did they have beautiful robes that we had special expericnes with but they gave us slippers. It was just so wonderful that I will always go back there.

I just returned from a trip with friends to Vegas two weeks ago.

As the mother of a 19 year old who has been to Vegas many times. I would choose the Wynn or the Venetian.

We had the buffet breakfast at the Wynn and it was excellent. It really is a lovely hotel. The Venetian is great too.

We stayed in a huge suite at Bellagio and it was fantastic. Another good choice for you. Bellagio is in the most central location.

If you choose Wynn, Venetian or Bellagio, you can't make a mistake.

We saw LOVE at the Mirage - it was great. I can highly recommend.

Have fun!

thanks everyone for your input.

I am not sure about taking my teens but we went to Europe in June and had a blast. My kids are good travellers and like new adventures. We are not gamblers but figured the weather is still nice and we could just hang out as a family.

I got a good rate at the Mirage of 99.00 per room so that is attractive.

Does the Mirage still have Sigried and Roy's white tigers on display?

nadoosh --
I think the comments regarding taking your teens to Las Vegas aren't about their being "good travellers" and that they "like new adventures" but rather what they will be exposed to in Las Vegas -- no pun intended. It really is an adult playground and nothing seems to be hidden from view, quite the contrary, it is all out there in your face [again, no pun intended].

Personally, I wouldn't take my 13 & 15 years old there, but that's me.

Personally, I'd like this thread to stay on topic--nadoosh isn't asking us whether or not she should take her teens to Vegas...

Our two teens have stayed with us at TheHotel and the Venetian. They enjoyed both and loved the pools at both places. Funny thing, though--both of them mentioned how much they'd like to stay at Wynn sometime. Why, I do not know but it is a beautiful resort. Guess I agree with them!

Although Mandalay Bay is at the end of the strip, (just one past the Luxor), it has an amazing pool complex, especially for teens. If pools are a big draw, you can't do better. Prices should be good, and it has a great attraction for the whole family called Shark Reef, and a House of Blues.

Of the ones you mentioned, I'd go with Venetian or the Wynn.

Check out cheapovegas.com for lots of comments on all the places.

Tess, what do you mean you don't know why they want to stay at the Wynn. I think the answer is obvious. You've clearly raised them to have good taste!

I would not recommend Caesar's for teens simply because there is very little to do there for someone under 21. There's no arcade, and only high-end shops in the Forum. Caesar's pool is NOT designed for families, especially since 25% of the pool area is "European sunbathing" (topless). Mirage has a much more family-friendly pool, and Mandalay Bay's is the best. Yes. Mirage still has the tigers and other animals, plus the dolphins.

Neopolitan,

You're right--I've raised motel snobs! Their dad and I tell them, though, that we logged plenty of nights of Super 8'ish hotels in our younger days and they'll find that out when they're traveling on their own dollar
