Ground Zero : free access?
Hi,

We are visiting NYC and want to include a short stop at Ground Zero but learned that they charge a fee to look at the site?

Where can we go to see the site for free?
You have been misinformed. There is no charge and never has been. Perhaps, you were thinking about the period when you had to get a ticket (which was free) to get onto the viewing platform. That viewing platform no longer exists.
Thank you Howard,

If the platform no longer exist, where can we go to see the site then? Which street?

Take the subway down to Cortlandt or thereabouts. Once you get above ground, it's easy to find your way. Just follow the crowds.
Look for the big giant hole on the West side of the Financial District. You cannot miss it.

Thanks Pam

As was pointed out the viewing platform no longer exists. The tickets, when they were required, were handed out at the South Street Seaport. A call to the Seaport provided the information that you can view the site if you go to Liberty Street and Broadway.
What did they do with the platform? Many visitors wrote messages on it. Will it be saved for what ever memorial is set up?
The ramp was still there as of July but the platform was gone. I am sure they will save it for something or other.
