Grocery nearest to Hilton Waikoloa

Does anyone know if there is a grocery near the Kona airport or in the Waikoloa area? We'll have a refrigerator in our room and plan to stock up on supplies enroute from the airport. Thanks!

Also--any interesting only-in-Hawaii grocery products we can look for?

Yes there is a Whalers General Store for supplies located in the King's Shops near Hilton Waikoloa and Outrigger Waikoloa Beach Marriott.

Otherwise Kmart and Walmart further south in Kona, (not on the way between Airport and Waikoloa), have many Hawaii type items at low prices $)

Whaler's is expensive! And their selection of refrigerated items is virtually non-existent. For stocking a refrigerator it's worth the 20 minute drive from the airport to Wal-Mart or KTA Groceries in Kailua-Kona. You'll get your gas money back just in the price of Kona coffee!

Agree with the points raised by fdecarlo, and would add that there is also a real grocery store(Safeway?) above Walmart in Kona.:S-
Here is a link to website with stores & locations on the Big Island:

Thanks for the info, JohnD and fdecarlo. It's very helpful. I'll check them out and hope I can map out a route from the airport to those places.

To find Kona Walmart& grocery store, Suggest you go to www.expedia.com
click on Maps & driving directions and enter the following:

From: KOA [Keahole-Kona International Airport] (airport), Hawaii

To: Henry St, Kailua Kona, HI, 96740

As I recall you turn (right) south on 19 leaving KOA airport which merges with 190 and becomes 11 in Kona where you hit alot of traffic lights and more traffic. Walmart and other stores are uphill on left, not easy to see from highway. If confused ((?))stop and ask for directions, it isn't hard to find. Reverse route back onto 19North past KOA airport to get to Waikoloa. :S-

If you head up the hill (away from the ocean) on Waikoloa Road, there is a full-service grocery store in the Waikoloa Village. They have a full line of wines, refrigerated food, produce, etc. The prices weren't much worse than anywhere else on the island. Enjoy the "griaffiti" on the lava rocks as you make your way up the hill!

Hey ChristieP, do you recall if that was a "new" KTA in Waikoloa Village?:?

John: That's the Waikoloa Village Market. Nice selection, but prices are higher than KTA (and much higher than Wal-Mart).
