Groceries in Waikiki

I will have a passle of Girl Scouts in a condo in Waikiki. Does anybody know where I can buy groceries at non-tourist prices. Just the exorbitant normal ones?

We have Sam's and Costco a drive away. I would go up to Star Market on King Street. You could also get cheap produce in Chinatown. There are Farmer's Markets too.

I am not planning to rent a car so we'll be doing taxi and public bus. How about staples? What is the price of a gallon of milk running?

Janet,

just came back from Waikiki, and while the locals complained, I found no tourist type prices in the grocery stores in the area as compared to home.

In fact I was very surprised at the price of everything on the strip.

Milk at Safeway has been running 2.94 a gallon for Dairy Glen.

If you go to the Safeway on Beretania make sure you ask for a "club card" so you can take advantage of the specials.

You can catch a free shuttle bus to Ala Moana Mall from various places throughout Waikiki. There is a Foodland grocery store on the backside of Ala Moana. Just check the mall directory and take the escalator to the bottom level and you'll see it right off.

Janet, try www.foodland.com this will give you an idea of prices in the local area
you might also find that you can place an online order before you go and have it delivered to your condo.the thing that shocked me the most was the price of breakfast cereal,it was so expensive.

Safeway prices is not bad when stuff is on sale (must use their free member card), they have a good variety of goods on sale each week. Also check out Daiei, behind Ala Moana, they have a bunch of stuff on sale all the time and you can see a lot of good asian foods there too.

We found the prices at the Foodland in Ala Moana Mall to be no better than or sometimes more expensive than the various Food Pantry locations right in Waikiki. Food Pantry is smaller so not as much of a selection but Foodland wasn't worth the trek to us.
