Greyhound or Amtrak?

just read thread about scary bus travel in USA (am British) - was planning to wander by Greyhound from Savannah thru Smokies to Washington but now wondering if train would be safer (providing they stay on the tracks)

Nola:

I'd go by train it is a lot more pleasant trip and no, Amtrak is not always involved in accidents. It's just that the press gets carried away with any incident that comes along.

The trains follow far fewer routes than the buses, and generally cost more, but are a FAR more comfortable and civilized way to travel. Amtrak, which operates the trains, has a variety of special deals, packages, and offers available thorugh their web site.

Take Amtrak. It has bus connections for places the train does not go. Greyhound is not safe, not clean and not worth it.

Always check how far apart airfare is from train fare some times there is little to no difference.
