Greenwich Village to LGA and EWT to Greenwich Village

Hi all

I am comin to NYC in April next year. Am staying in the Village for 3 days then going to Memphis before coming back to the Village for another 3 days and then flying home. The flight to Memphis is with United Airlines from LGA with a stopover in DCA for 47 minutes. The return flight is with Southwest Airlines to EWT with a 1 hour stopover in Chicago.

1. What is the best way to get from the Village to LGA late morning (flight is 2pm).

2. On our return what is the best way to get back to the Village from EWT at about 8.30pm.

3. Are the stopover times do-able considering they are internal flights. Really hope so cos I have already booked them.

Also, we are staying at the Washington Square Hotel and would appreciate some "local" knowledge as to where to eat at reasonable prices in the area and perhaps short walks around there.

Many thanks as ever. :)

Lynn

Do you mean EWR?

Can't imagine why you wouldnt fly nonstop to and from Memphis. It would have to be HUGE savings for me to change planes esp. if you have checked baggage. If it's just a stop and no change of plane, not so terrible. Have no idea if you have to change planes whether that's enough time. Chicago O'Hare is very large and busy. You might wnat to check the ontime record of the flights you booked on flightstats.com Each airport has their own guidelines. Simplest way to/from LGA is by taxi or car service. I would book a car servcie like allstatelimo.com for the ip to LGA and take a taxi back

There are LOADs of restaurants in the village of all sorts. Map your hotel on maps.google.com. Click search nearby and type in restaurants in the pop up box. You'll be amazed at the choices.. They also link reviews. John's Pizzeria on Bleecker st. is famous. Otto's is another good Italian/pizza. Corner Bistro makes lots of best of lists for burgers. Menupages.com is also a good place to look.

Newark is EWR.

I don't think either stopover is doable - but I am risk averse. You might make them - or might not. But as long as each trip is on a single ticket the airline is responsible for getting you on another plane. BUT, I would have a list of the next flights with you - since it helps prevent them from putting you on some obscure routing.

I would do cab either way - but I don;t take luggage to airports on public transit. Life is too short and I am nt pack mule woman.

To LGA you could take the subway (don;t know which one since I don't know exactly where you are) to either Grand Central or Port Authority and then get the large airport bus from there. (From the Village to LGA via all public transit is very onerous since there is no subway that goes there and the bus is a regular city bus that stops every couple of blocks - not a tourist bus with space for luggage.)

Getting back from EWR you could take the Air Train to Newark Penn Station, then NJT to NY Penn Station and then the subway - or a cab. Depends on how much luggage and if you mind hauling it up and down several flights of stairs.

And agree that there should have been plenty of non-stops from NYC to Memphis - we have non-stops to almost everywhere from one of our airports. If it was strictly a price decision - only you can decide what your time and aggravation are worth. (I also do only non-stop flights unless there are no other choices.)

Coming from Newark your best choice is the PATH train from Newark Pen Station http://www.panynj.gov/path/maps-schedules.html. Change at Journal Square for the 33rd St train, get off at 9th Street. Walk two blocks south on 6th, one block east on Waverly place and you're there. The hotel restaurant has had some good reviews here. http://www.northsquareny.com/ But there are many choices in the area.
