Greenwich Village
 

We are going to N.Y. next week and a friend told me to be sure to go to Greenwich Village. We have been to N.Y. a number of times but have never gone there. Any suggestions on fun things to do there and where to have lunch? Thanks!

We went on an walking, eating tour of the village that we really enjoyed. They stop at about 15 different deating places along the walk. YOu can see more at www.imar.com
Then go into Food and Drink category and scroll down to "Food and Culture off the Beaten Path".
We've done it twice and had a lot of fun.

Just walking around the area is entertaining! I suggest you start out at Forbes Gallery on 5th ave near 13th street (it a lovely gallery that's free with all kind of items that were collected by M. Forbes). AFter that walk down 5th Avenue (you'll see the arch where 5th Av ends). Walk through Washington Sq. Park. ON a nice day it will be filled with people and all kinds of street entertainers. From there, walk up MacDougal Street and around Bleecker St. There are menu cafes and restaurants to chose from. If it's on a weekend, you'llprobably encounter a street or art fair. If you keep heading south and cross Houston St, you'll be in Soho.

that should be 'many' cafes not 'menu' cafes.

Some suggestions, for just a cafe and dessert, check out Cafe Dante on Macdougal betw Bleecker & Houston. For nice outdoor dining and people watching, Bar Pitti and 6th av & Bleecker (next to DaSilvano's which is knows as a celeb spot). There are also numerous falafel, pizza, mexican, chinese, japanese, and just about everything else.

Follow MFNYC's walk route. When you get to Bleecker St, continue west, crossing 6th Ave. Follow Bleecker west, crossing 7th Ave as well, till the end. This will take you through the heart of the quaint West Village--tree-lined streets lined with small townhouses ans small shops.
