What would you say is the best place to eat in Tucson? I want the greatest food.

If money is no object and haute cuisine is the object--the Ventana Room is the tops in my opinion. Wonderful food, good service, lovely room and location. http://www.ventanaroom.com/flash.html

For a wonderful gourmet meal when price is no issue, IMO Janos at the Westin LaPaloma Resort & Spa is great food, wonderful presentation and atmosphere. On the other end of the price scale is the Bangkok Cafe on Speedway which has great Thai food, but it is a small ordinary place on Speedway by the University. There are many Mexican food places too if that is your choice. Knowing what kind of food and what price range you would like would get you a better answer.

Having spent 43 years in Tucson, I can say that I have eaten in a lot of her restaurants.
Mexican: El Minuto - 354 S Main - a landmark in the downtown area. It serves traditional regional Mexican food. Teresa's Mosaic Cafe - 2456 N. Silver Mosaic - serves up mexican food with a Oaxacan flavor. The tortillas are made fresh and the diners can watch them being made, as the comal is in the dining area Cafe Poca Cosa - 110 E Pennington - The menu changes at least twice each day. The offerings are lavorful, not-too-spicy main dishes using chicken, beef, pork, seafood and vegetables and rich moles. Steaks: El Corral - http://www.elcorraltucson.com/- has some fabulous filet mignon. Their house salad, tossed at the table, is perfect. Just be prepared for a wait, as they are very busy on most nights. Grill at HaCienda Del Sol - 5601 N. Hacienda Del Sol - is an upscale dining experience Casual Dining: Trattoria Pina - The menu features Northern Italian food such as veal, fresh seafood, a large variety of pastas, salads, chicken and gourmet pizza in a wood burning oven. Vivace – contemporary Italian cuisine with Vivace’s everything-fresh, everything-homemade menu which features specialties such as light seafood entrees and innovative pastas. Wildflower – a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a contemporary cuisine featuring Asian, French and Italian influences. Old Pueblo Grill - everyday food with a southwestern twist. Specializing in Grilled Salmon, Seabass, Fish Tacos, Traditional Mexican, Prime Beef and Chicken Entrees. Olive Tree Restaurant - featuring Greek and continental specialties such as roast chicken athenian, lamb shish kabob - desserts includes baklava - North – located in La Encantada Plaza - Contemporary Northern Italian cuisine and an extensive wine list. Firebird Grill - located in La Encantada Plaza - wood fired steaks, seafood and pastas in a mountain lodge atmosphere. Firecracker – An exhibition kitchen presents dishes including wok-charred fresh salmon with cilantro pesto and five-spice breast of duck over jade spinach. Asian-style appetizers, salads, seafood, and stir-fry dishes round out the menu. Contis - Foods are cooked on racks in stone ovens, so any fats and oils are drained in a natural manner. Some dishes will have a light breading that is prepared in our kitchens. Contis is known for their homemade Italian specialties. Da Vinci - traditional Italian dishes, freshly made pasta and heavenly desserts. Try the tiramsu! The Melting Pot - Foothills Mall - a four course dining experience, truly! No shortage of great food in Tucson. My favorite is brunch at Hacienda Del Sol -- and Vivace. North (at La Encantada) is also very good. If you like Mexican -- Cafe Poco Cosa is the best. But, if I were to have just one meal (other than brunch) in Tucson -- it would be Vivace. The views at Hacienda Del Sol are great. Lots to choose from in Tucson.
