Great Views in LA

Hi,
My friend and I will be going to LA in October. Can anyone suggest acitvites and restaurants with great area views? Thanks for all your help.

Great views can be had at the Getty Center.

Which incidentally has an excellent restaurant!

kirstenrdh,

Please keep in mind that any great view in the LA is very dependent upon how smoggy it is.

As Curious says - don't set your heart on any views. I have been up at the Getty (great views and really good food) when you could see forever - and other times you could not see anything beyond the hill it is set on.

generally - but no guarantees, the views are better on Sundays after all the weekday smog has sort of cleared out. Or if you are lucky enough to be there during Santa Ana conditions when the offshore winds keep the air clear.

But it is more common to have smogged in views . . . . . .

You may be lucky in October and hit a Santa Ana wind condition, when the smog all blows out to sea and the sky becomes crystal clear. Drive Mulholland Highway from Hollywood to W.L.A., Yamashiro Restaurant in Hollywood has great views on a clear day. Just go UPHILL.

Yamashiro is a great suggestion for the view. Food is OK. Another great view, oddly enough, is the top level of the Grove parking lot (!). Then you can go out to dinner or shop at either the Grove or Farmers' Market.

The view at the Getty is about the best thing about the place.
