Great restaurants near Miami Airport hotel?

We will be staying at one of the Marriott Airport hotels in Miami (Marriott Airport Residence Inn) for a couple of days, and were hoping to find some really good restaurants and/or bars nearby. Is there such a thing? Walking distance from our hotel would be best, but we could also take a short cab ride.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Last time I was there, this was absolutely, positively not an area of the city where I would want to walk.

Miami and Miami Beach have great food in all price ranges. My favorite cheap food is at a Caribbean chain called Pollo Loco, but real Cuban food is not a lot more expensive. Called Ocho is the heart of the traditional Cuban community. But you have to drive there.

I agree about not walking around that area. Miami and South Beach have lots of good walking areas, but that's not one of them. If I were you, I think I'd look for another place to stay.

You can take a 10 minute cab ride to Michaels in the up-and-coming, or perhaps already arrived, Wynwood neighborhood. That is what I would do..why are you staying so long in the airport area?

I would not suggest walking any further from the Marriott than into the parking lot. This is not a pleasant area by any stretch of the imagination. I too wonder why you would choose it for "a couple of days".

One suggestion is to take a taxi to Versailles, the famous old Cuban restaurant not too far.

Not too far from the airport is Coral Gables, closer than South Beach. Miracle Mile is a lovely street that features many restaurants. It nice to walk around the area once you arrive there via taxi.

Coral Gables is indeed nice; I just didn't realize it was that close. If you have a car, all these ill be easy.

Thanks for all the replies...they will be very helpful.

FYI, we are staying by the airport as we are meeting up with a large group of music lovers going on Delbert McClinton's Sandy Beaches cruise. It is like a reunion seeing everyone before we all get on the ship...great fun!

Also, we come from the West Coast, and just want to take it easy and adjust to the 3 hour time change before the cruise starts.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure that anyone was suggesting that the reunion or the adjustment time is a bad idea, just that with all the accommodations available all over the Miami area, why would you choose to stay at the airport?
