Great Restaurants in Maui
We are going to Maui in about 2 weeks and would like some recommendations for restaurants. We are staying at the Maui Kai in Honokowai which is not too far from Whaler's Village, and will probably only go out for dinner so we want some "special" meals. Any suggestions are appreciated. Also, any good ideas about getting groceries to stock our condo?

Right near your condo will be a local market called Star Market. It has local Hawaiian items plus all the usual stuff. For locally grown fruits and vegetables, ask for the directions to the farmers market (it's a short drive from your condo). If you are a Costco member it's cheaper to stock up at Costco which you will see right after you leave the airport.
If you like sushi, try Sansei in Kapalua. For great Hawaiian atmosphere and local seafood try Leilani's, Hula Grill, Kimos, Pacific O. For extremely creative island foods and great entertainment try the Feast at Lele (private table service luau). For the big splurge on perhaps the best food and hawaiian atmosphere on the entire island, try Mama's Fish House (at the beginning of the road to Hana.

second Bev's Hali general store..Mama's Fish House, Gazebo for breakfast, Plantation House for breakfast, Kimos and Hula Grill...Sansei for sushi and Maui tacos shop.
totally agree about loading up on cocktail stuff and some breakfast items at Costco.

Trouble with stocking up at Costco is the size of the food! Potential for lots of wasted food. We actually brought a few things with us, since we knew we wouldn't want to buy basics like cereal and such at high prices and in package sizes we wouldn't finish.
For a different meal [non-tropical] try Chez Paul just outside Lahaina[Located in Olowalu, just four miles south of the picturesque seaside town of Lahaina]. http://www.chezpaul.net/ We used a buy one get one free entree from Entertainment book and saved a lot of $$. Excellent meal, lovely place.
For a fun meal, try Annabelle's and Warren's in Lahaina. It is a unique evening and the food is pretty good. It is dinner theatre/magic show that was an amazing show.

going to Costco for a muffins or banana nut loaves for $5-$6 is no big deal..go and try and buy that same quality muffins at Safeway and your about $3 per item..which equates to about $36 bucks..
Prices at the local grocery store are at least 3 times higher and that is a conservative amount...though we don't drink milk, gallon of milk was over $10.
We go get a case of beer $23..couple bottles of wine $20..muffins $5..passion fruit juice or pineapple $6
and we are set to go..saves a lot of money..and haven't had any waste so far!

I second debitNM's recommendation for Warren and Annabelles Comedy/Magic show. It is one of the most hilarious shows I have ever seen. But make sure you don't go on a night that Warren has a substitute---it won't be the same.
If I have left over stuff from Costco, I just jam it in my suitcase and take it home---or mail it home in a box. Or give it away to other people----it's still cheaper, even if you don't use it all.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. We are arriving at 8:00 p.m. so will probably have to drive back to get to Costco our second day. We are definitely going to Warren and Annabelle's. About Warren and Annabelle's--is it worth it to buy the entire package (food and show) or just buy a la cart' at the lower price and just pay for the show?

The entire package includes pre-show entertainment that some people (including myself) find very corny. And the food is not a complete dinner----it is just a lot of appetizers. I would advise calling them to find out what time the actual magic show starts and get their about 20 min before that to have drinks. Prior to that eat dinner elsewhere---- in a real restaurant.

We did the whole show and got a package with a couple of appetizers and drinks and a dessert. It was enough to be a meal for us.
Yes, the pre-show was a bit "corny" but you know, we liked me[well I did, DH a bit less]
