Great restaurants in Ft lauderdale area

I need suggestions for a very good, special restaurant in the Ft. Lauderdale area for my parents 40th anniversary. The only thing to really rule out is sushi, they are not that adventurous. We are willing to go to West Palm or Miami too. Really just looking for a place with great service that will treat us extra special that night and has great food.
Thanks for the help.

The Capitol Grille near the Galleria..just opened about 3 months ago...first rate place, gorgeous restaurant.

Thanks for the suggestion although we would prefer a local place, not a chain. I think the Capital Grill is great, they are all over the country and I go there quite often for business.

Casa D"angelos,,, one of the best Italian I have had. TRy La Vielle Mason in Boca...heard it was divine for special occasions.

The Addison in Boca: great food in a beautiful setting (Addison Mizner's oringal office).

better recs here for Florida. The Chowhound for Florida is too big (poor format) and there are few posts compared to the bigger boards like Manhattan, LA and DC. The recs there are often parochial and not very knowledgable with a few exceptions like William Fox.

Casa D'Angelo is a great recommendation. I seem to forget about it. Very traditional. Marks Las Olas is also great. You don't need to drive far. Fort Lauderdale is a good restaurant town.

Look at these menus to help your decision: (Service is excellent at both...call ahead and make your needs known)

You will "mangia bene" either place. LMF

Any more suggestions? Can anyone comment on 3030 in the Marriott Harbor Beach?

Mark's Las Olas can be very loud. I second Casa D'Angelo. The food and service are excellent. If you want to drive to Miami, Azul at the Mandarin Oriental is fabulous and well worth the drive.

We ate at Charlie's Crab. It was very good and I thought a special place. It was on the intracoastal outside seating available. It appeated others were celebrating an event that p.m.

We've had two excellent meals at Las Olas Cafe. Doesn't sound like much, but it's just east Of Mango's on Las Olas, several yards off the street in a courtyard where you'll swear you're in Europe. Everything was wonderful.

Have also eaten at 3030 Ocean in the Marriott Harbor Beach and had a very good experience there as well. Great views!
