Great Restaurant to visit in Atlanta
I know this great restaurant located in Sandy Springs. "The Brooklyn Cafe" is one of the best kept secrets of Atlanta for italian food with a twist. You must come in and try there Halibut, the spicy thai sauce that is used is great. You can call 404-843-8377 to put your name on the list ahead of time or just come on in and a place will always be open.

no, no, no, no, no first time and only poster For REALLY good Italian not too far away from this place, go to Casa Nuova on Hwy 9 north of Alpharetta |
Brooklyn Cafe has been around probably 10yrs...could you be looking for some free advertising? This is your first post...
FWIW, I like B'lyn Cafe and have eaten there several time but don't like this post.... |
And yes, Starrs--Casa Nueva is a find! GREAT food in a little neighborhood restaurant. Thanks to your tip, we plan to become regulars!!!

Woohoo! Perfect timing as I am debating whether to go Cumming next weekend; a great place to eat will help make up my mind. We'll try that.

Uh ... that Casa Nueva, sorry about that. Although I checked the website, and they haven't updated it since Valentine's Day. Still open??

Yes! They are still open. Tell Maria and Tony an old friend who moved away said "hi". Ask for Tres Leche cake for me and they should know who I am. OWJ and I ate lunch there a few weeks ago.
They are north of McFarland, across from the Kroger - just past the light at McDonald's. REALLY good. They are from New York, bought property up there 20 years ago and opened and sold Italian restaurants in Atlanta - as the growth moved north, so did they. Maria introduced me to Buttery Nipples :-) as a complimentary after dinner drink. It's spelled Casa Nuova - I know, it sounds like a Mexican restaurant - 770-475-9100 birgator, you were looking for a Thai restaurant on the south side of Atlanta. Satay House in Alpharetta is very good. It's on Hwy 9 just south of Old Milton. Tell them the manager the "tootsie roll lady" said hi. I think most of the waitstaff has changed since I moved from the area. |
If you want a meat and three and real southern cooking, try Midway Meal House - if it has reopened. They had a fire but they should have reopened by now. Nothing fancy - just good country cooking.
Midway is midway between Cumming and Alpharetta. Meal House is just north of Casa Nuova - both on the left of Hwy 9 as you drive north. |
Yo, Restaurant Maven (yeah, that's you Starrsville!) Now that we're up in the land of Alpharetta, we need to find some good Chinese? Any suggestions?? Mexican? We haven't found a favorite Mexican yet--we've eaten at some that are just ok though...

Every time we go to Emeeril's, we are knocked out by the food. Great way to do Emeril's is to order all appetizers and graze. Amazingly good. Not expensive for what you get. A most memorable experience.

Starrs:
Thanks for the info, both the Casa and the Thai suggestion! I'll be on Rt. 9 right below 20, so that's just perfect -- usually I've been driving UP rather than down at the end of the day. B/ |
Mexican - I used to go to the one right at the intersection of 9 and McFarland. It kind of looks like a dive but is good. Small, family owned, not part of a chain. I'm not that big of a Mex fan but liked my favorites there. There are two chains in the area that are pretty good but with one closer to you that starts with P, but I'm blanking right now. That one and La Cazuela were the back-ups, but I preferred the little one near me (or near the former me).
No Chinese rec's. I'd go to Thai instead of any chance I could get. PF Chang's lettuce wraps are very good. Oh, there's one near the movie at Mansell (just down from Media Play) that I'd go to before movies. My favorite custom made furniture store is next door so I'd do the three for entertainment - Chinese, browse the furniture and on to the movie. birgator, you are really in my old neck of the woods - going way back. Whatcha doin' up there? |
Surin in Virginia Highlands is my fav Thai restaurant. Excellent.

Starrsville:
While I live near Charleston, I belong to the society of latter day gypsies; or an antique dealer who travels to shows a few times a month. Just back from Lakewood which is the fixed second week end regular, then it's a crap shoot where I end up. Will do Marietta on the Square in September, and used to do Crabapple every spring and fall. Thought about the Lakewood 400 show on Rt. 9 this week (when I asked), but instead will be heading to Burlington, KY with a buddy who wants to shop the whole way from Asheville to Burlington so we're taking two extra days to drive. An adventure! I have filed your favs on Rt. 9 for the next time I'm in the area; appreciate your recommendations! B/ |
