Great Hotel Deal in Boston
hi all,
I can't believe the deal I just came across and wanted to pass it on in case anyone can partake. My husband is giving me a day/night off from the kids so that I can work on an art project, read, sleep in, etc... I will be staying overnight at a hotel in Boston (which is nearby to where we live). Yes, this is a decadent little luxury, however, I did tell my husband I would book the room through Priceline or Hotwire, etc... I caught on that the brand new Intercontinental Hotel was possibly available on Hotwire for a good price. Unfortunately my dates were not available, although the hotel did appear available for 2/14 - Valentine's Day!!! for $122 per night!!! Such a deal!! I scoured the internet looking for a deal and kept getting $245/night (too high for me for such an indulgence). Finally I remembered TravelZoo. I followed a link to the Intercontinental's website and got my room for $149/night. SUCCESS!!! I still could have stayed in Boston for less (probably $80 per night for a 4*), but I really wanted to stay at this brand new hotel. It looks really plush. Hopefully someone else can take advantage of these deals, particularly the hotwire deal on Valentine's Day (for identification purposes, the hotel is listed as being in Quincy Market / Financial District as a 4.5* with the following amenities: Fitness Restaurant Laundry Spa Pool Business Center High Speed Internet Hopefully this helps someone. |
I got the new Westin Waterfront for $129 per night the begining of March.
|
how did you get it?
also, re: the travelzoo booking. i can cancel it within 48 hours. I thought this was a good thing, just in case some other fabulous deal comes along. the best I could do on the new Westin was $165/night.... looks like a swanky hotel. |
mamadadapaige - thanks for the posting. I just booked 3 nights on that rate.
gotravel - not sure if the Westin Waterfront is such a great location - out by the convention center. Not a bad location, just not great. Intercontinental is somewhat better as it is closer to Quincy Market, North End etc. We may still look for something in the Back Bay for our timeframe. |
The Westin Waterfront is not a great location for seeing Boston, if you want to be able to walk to everything try getting closer.
The Intercontinental has a 24 hour french cafe, if anyone tries it let me know how it was. It is also a 15 minute walk to the new Institute of Contemporary Art. |
bennnie,
we have had consistently good luck using priceline for the backbay. all rates have been in the $80-$90/night range for a 4* bid. We got the Fairmont Copley once and the Copley Marriott twice. The frontdesk staff at the Marriott could not have been nicer and gave us an enormous room, almost the size of a suite. In the winter the nice thing about this location (as well as the Back Bay Westin) is you can cover so much ground without going outdoors if the weather ends up being really inclement. On this next night away I will be holing up in my room for the most part and am excited to try the Intercontinental... the room pictures of their website look phenomenal. I didn't realize the proximity to the new ICA, which I haven't been to yet. |
Thanks for the tip on the new Intercontinental. I just booked it for President's Weekend at the rate of $149. I was planning on staying at the Marlowe (Kimpton Hotel)in Cambridge where I have had good experiences in the past, but I thought it would be fun to try something different this time.

mama- Thanks for the info on priceline. We live north of Boston and love to stay in town at least 2-3 times a year. We never seem to stay at the same hotel twice. Its fun to check out new places. Totally agree about staying at the Marriott or Westin in the winter but we couldn't resist the great rate and the chance to stay in a brand new hotel. Last I checked the Westin was about $225 a night for our dates. Hotwire is another option that we've used with success.

The Westin deal was a Travel Zoo eBlast. I'd try the Travel Zoo site to see if it is still available.

This week TravelZoo, the Millennium Bostonian Hotel is $129 the entire month of February.

bennnie, I live NOrth of Boston too. Manchester, MA. We used to live in Boston before we had kids and always have the urge to get back into town. Fortunately Boston is a city that works really well with hotwire/priceline. Unfortunately, NYC isn't, otherwise we'd go much more often than we do. Between NYC's tiny rooms (necessitating two rooms for a family of four) and the high prices, it is an expensive proposition for a weekend in the city.
|
mama - I live even further north than you. Love the North Shore. I hear you about getting to NYC. I have no excuse I have access to an apartment any weekend and still only get there once a year. But I do love it when we go.
GoTravel - that Millenium deal sounds good. Great location now that the Big Dig is sort of done. |
Just wanted to give an update on the Intercontinental Boston. I was all booked to go there over Presidents Weekend when I found out that the hotel charges $39 parking per day. That is totally understandable but what seems outrageous is they charge $39 every time you come and go. In other words if you pull your car out 10 times you would be charged $390 for the day. It so happens my plans would probably require that I come and go several times, thereby running up a bill more expensive than the cost of the room. When I made my reservation and inquired about parking I was not told the $39 was each time I came and went. I found out through a friend who had reserved rooms at the hotel. I spoke to a manager who wouldn't back down. Best I could do was 1 free in/out. I cancelled my reservation. When is a bargain not a bargain?

Wow, talk about hidden charges that will kill you!

Makes the Westin Waterfront look nice! I actually think that hood is looking good these days, especially during nice weather. Refreshing walk on the water to the NEnd or LOVE!!! the lomein and littlenecks in blackbean sauce at Eastern Pier! And a view to boot~
|
yes, i too noted the high parking fee. fortunately my husband is driving me and dropping me off, otherwise I'd have to think twice or figure our somewhere else to park (such as the P.O. Square Garage which has great prices on the weekend - not exactly next door to the Intercontinental but not too far away either).
