Great Getaway Locations in New England

We are looking for a good weekend getaway location in the New England Area. I am trying to find a quaint town with shoppes and streets to stroll, great restaurants, Bed and Breakfasts and scenry. Ideas anyone? Thanks!

Definitely stay in Kennebunkport Maine. Best Bed & Breakfast I have ever been to hands down is The Inn at Harbor Head. My husband and I have stayed there 4 times. Plan to spent each milestone anniversary here. The inn is actually in a neighboring town called Cape Porpoise. The inn is right on the water with amazing views and a great breakfast. Kennebunkport is a great little town. Quaint with shops, restaurants, a beach, etc. Favorite restaurants include Nunan's Lobster Hut. Fantastic lobster. You get 2 whole lobsters served with potato chips for $15.99. Last time we ate there we sat 2 tables away from Sean Penn and Robin Wright who were in town filming a movie. If you have any more questions let me know, happy to share more.

During what season will you be traveling? That would definitely impact suggestions. All of the above sound great to me!

Bar Harbor.Bar Harbor Manor. Great place. You also have the only National park in N. England. Acadia nat. park. Try to watch the whales.Paul

Portsmouth NH. Great restaurant choices. Strawbery Banke historical area. Harbor and inland rivers cruises. Theater and music. Wonderful drives i.e. Newcastle and along the coast in Rye. Probably 30 minutes to the Flagg Hill Winery and Distillery (that's right NH made vodka!). Drive over the bridge to Kittery Maine for outlet shopping or take the beautiful drive out to Kittery Point and stop at Chauncy Creek for lobster (summers).

Are you looking for mountains or beach?

Thanks for all that replied! We are looking for something romantic. It can be the beach or the mountains. I am planning for a long weekend in March.
