Great Coastal Inns?
 

We are looking for a special place to spend our anniversary and have only one criterion: it must be on the coast. It doesn't really matter which coast (in this country, though) we just want a place we can relax, see, smell and taste the ocean and forget...

I wish I could say "money is no object" however, I would like to keep the cost below $250 per night.

I would welcome your suggestions and the reasons you think highly of the place you're reccommending. Thank you very much.

Oregon has a very beautiful coast, lots of quiet spots and some towns with more activities. Lots of B&Bs, inns or hotels, easily below your price limit.

I love the Oregon coast because I am an Oregonian and am biased of course, but I have heard many non-Oregonians say it is among the most beautiful scenery-wise. It is very rugged and can be almost wild. It is not a place to sit on the beach in the sun. It is great for walking and kite flying but not for getting a tan.

However, depending on the time of year for your anniversary, a more southernly beach might be a better choice, unless you get an oceanview room with a fireplace.....

Al, did you see the trip report on a 20th anniversary trip to Carmel? I don't know if it meets your price criterion, but it sounds just about perfect.

Closer to where I live, there's beautiful Laguna Beach or spectacular La Jolla. In Laguna, the Casa del Camino is a historic hotel with beautiful views, although it's not a super-luxurious property. The Surf and Sand down Coast Highway is a little more luxurious and has great views too.

Down in Dana Point there is a nice Ritz-Carlton-- it might be out of the price target, however.

In La Jolla, the Hotel Parisi is very chic and deluxe, and the Lodge at Torrey Pines is a AAA Five-Diamond resort, so it's almost off the chart. Couldn't tell you if it's in your price range (I always stay with friends down in SD).

The Keepers House on Ilse au Haut, Maine, might be worth a look. Haven't stayed there, but plan to someday. Definately not everybody's cup of tea- quite isolated. The cost is more than you specified, but it includes all meals.

SaraLM--Can you reccommend anyplace specific on the Oregon coast? I realize it's large and beautiful but is there a specificic Inn or town yoou like?

rjw_lgb_ca--Yes, I did see the report you mentioned and the Tickle Pink Inn is definitely a contender. Thanks also for all your other suggestions. However, since I grew up in Seal Beach, CA I am looking for something a little further away (although Carmel is far enough).

elberko--The Keeper's House looks great but unfortunately close for the season before we leave. My fault for not specifying dates.

BuzzyJ--We will be traveling between November 20 and January 20.

GoTravel--Heard of this one, have you stayed there? Looks great!

Al, my husband and I stayed there a couple of years ago and it is so romantic! I would love to go there for storm watching season.

Our room had floor to ceiling windows with a fireplace in the middle. All rooms overlook the Pacific ocean. I think they all have the windows and fireplaces.

We had such a romantic trip! I want to go back!
