Great Broadway/New York tips

We just got back from a wonderful, if soggy, weekend in the Big Apple, and I just wanted to share some thoughts. We saw the newest hit on Broadway, "Hairspray", and it was worth every penny. GREAT show!! Old-fashioned musical fun. If any of you possibly can, you MUST see it while Harvey Fierstein is in the role of Edna. He is remarkable. The music is infectious, the staging fabulous, the choreography great, and there's just a ton of talent in it. Go!

Also wanted to say we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Battery Park. My husband had free Hilton points to use, and this was all we could apply them to. I was quite hesitant, but it turned out to be very nice. Yes, it's one block from Ground Zero, and that was very sobering, but we had a view of the Hudson that was breathtaking. And walking down to the park was a highlight, even if we didn't get to take the ferries due to the nasty weather. It was still a great trip.
All highly recommended.

Glad that you were able to enjoy yourselves, despite the rain!
Wow, you were unlucky! It hasn't rained all summer, you catch the 3 rainy days we've had, and now after you left...beautiful, sunny days in the upper 70s/low 80s. Bummer!

Glad you had a good time anyway.

Couldn't agree more with Jan about "Hairspray"! It is a completely delightful, uplifting production, with strong performances throughout the entire cast, fabulous and clever (but not overdone, i.e. no falling chandeliers!) staging, outrageous costumes, and darn good music, to boot. We also saw it this past weekend, and it was, to be sure, the one bright spot in an otherwise dreary weather weekend around these parts! In any event, it's a must-see!

we're going to be in NYC in a couple weeks,9-19, - 9-24. (all women) any chance of getting tickets to HAIR SPRAY w/o advance reservations? Is there still a TKTS booth at Times SQ? We've stood in line before & took our chances on getting Matinee tkts, & have had luck in the past. We have tkts to The Producers, but Hair Spray sounds good, too. (if we can fit in another matinee!)
You will not find discount tickets anywhere for Hairspray. Your best chance is to stand in line outside the theater in the morning and wait, hoping for cancellations. You could also pick up standing room at the theater for the day or performance.
