Greasy Spoon or Bagels in NYC
Where is a good place to grab breakfast in Midtown? We will be staying at the W NY but would prefer to grab breakfast somewhere else nearby. Any suggestions?

Haley: If you are staying at the W on Lexington Avenue in the East 40's, you will have no problem finding plenty of good breakfast places. Just walk a block north or south of your hotel on Lexington Avenue or a block East to Third Avenue and you will see lots of places you can have breakfast. For good bagels in the area, try Essa Bagels on Third Avenue, around 50th Street, they are known as one of the best in the city. Enjoy.

SInce you'll be on Lexington Avenue (is it 54th Street)? I suggest a walk to Grand Central Station at 42nd Street and Park Avenue...not only will you get a tour of a very old and important New York City monument, you can get a bit to eat, too..you can grab coffee or tea and a muffin or bagel and walk around for awhile...there are so many shops and restaurants...the building is so grand...anyway, for breakfast goodies there's Au Bon Pain, Hot & Crusty, Oren's Daily Roast, Little Pie, Zaro's to name a few.

I second the vote for Essa Bagel... some of the best in NYC. I'd be surprised if you didn't want to bring a dozen home with you.

With so much great food around, please DO NOT go to AuBonPain (unless you are looking for the definition of poor service) or Zaro's Bread Basket... there is so much better out there!

Actually, Grand Central Station is a great idea and I wish I would have thought of it myself. As for previous poster on Au Bon Pain and Zaro's it really does depend on the location.

If it's a greasy spoon you're after, just walk around. There's an abundance of them (a/k/a 'coffee shoppe', 'Greek diner', etc.) all over Manhattan. They're all hit or miss, but breakfast is usually good since it's hard to screw up eggs.
