Greasy Creek/Butcher Hollow

My Mom was born and raised in this area of KY. I have been to this area 3X in my life and really want to show my daughter and granddaughter where she grew up. We will be in prestonburg for a family reunion and if anyone can give me exact location of Greasy Creek I'd surely appreciate it.

Can't remember much from when I was down there. I remember the swinging bridge that scared the living crap out of me and my brother. And walking into a store that had huge jars of pigs feet and pickled eggs, which still grosses me out. Went to a free will baptist church with my Papaw and once again He scared the crap out of us when he jumped up and started hollering in the church right along with all the other people. We ate some of the best tomatoes I ever had in my life. My Mom's people thought we were way to skinny and tried to feed us 24/7. My Mom pulled me and my brother aside and told Us not to go anywhere with anyone no matter what they tell us. Do not get out of her sight. And we never left her side.

My Mamaw is buried in a grave yard (that's what my momma calls it)somewhere in that Greasy creek area. If you know of a grave yard there Please let me know. Any info would be so helpful.

A record my momma recorded way back went something like this....

Now She sleeps on a hill in a bed of cold clay, how sad it did seem when they laid her away, now she's gone with the angels no more do I see, the dear beloved face of my mother to me. Has anyone heard this song before?

Thanks, Theresa in Detroit.

Hi Theresa, me again! That's "The Drunkard's Child"

Sorry to hear about your Harper Valley rendition. I sang it in junior high and won a 4-H competition. I guess that and the junior high first place launched my music career, LOL.
If you Google Greasy Creek and Butcher Hollow, it shows up on Topozone.

I think you want cemetaries in Johnson County and there are over 160. Here's a link and you can scroll down the page and see if you can find your family name. The names are alphabetical.

Butcher Hollow is a mile or two from Van Lear and I think Greasy Creek is in the Paintsville area. Another possibility is Floyd County. Floyd County doesn't have a master list so you will have to click on each cemetary.
