grapevine day trips

My wife and I are going to be staying at the Gaylord Texan Resort for a few days at the end of September while I attend a conference there. She was wondering if anybody could recommend any day trips or tours she could take. She already has a day planned to go shopping. Are there any wine tours or stuff like that available? Also, are there any restaurants in Gaylord that you would recommend? We are open to any type of food.

Old Hickory Steakhouse......Ala carte menu....FAB-U-LUS.....not inexpensive, 4 of us the tab came to about $350.00, no wine!!Appetizers about $12, salad$9, steak $35, sides were I think $9 each and dessert, warm pinneapple cake, $10...but very very nicely done..I'd do it again.

I live in Grapevine. :-)
Here's the Visitor's Info website: http://www.grapevinetexasusa.com/

There are several small wineries around the area, and they do tours. Of course, Grapevine Mills is good for shopping, as is downtown Grapevine. If she's into museums or cultural activities, Fort Worth is just a 20-minute drive and it has wonderful museums!

The only restaurant in the Texan that I have tried so far was he Riverwalk Cafe (buffet). We did their murder mystery theatre, and it was hilarious! One of my husband's friends says the sports bar is excellent, too.

Eat at the restaurant Stephan Pyles consulted on - not sure, but may be the Old Hickory - he has the best caesar salad and I miss it dearly (from Star Canyon).

I agree with Christie - Ft Worth's Arts District makes a great day trip - the Kimball, Amon Carter, the "new" Modern.

In addition to Fort Worth's arts district, if she likes gardens, Fort Worth's Botanical gardens are absolutley wonderful. At the end of September, the flowers and tons of roses will be back in full bloom. It will be lovely. They also have a large and lovely Japanese Garden within the Botanic garden. Also, there is a nice small restaurant that serves very good lunches right next to the Japanese Garden.

Dallas also has a really nice botanic garden but it is located quite a ways from the Gaylord Texan.

Just want to mention, in case she is not aware, that the old downtown part of Grapevine has streets full of really nice shops ranging from some clothes to decorating, wine and jewelry. Really fun place to shop. The hotel has a shuttle that goes back and forth.

The end of September is a good time to visit our area.
