Grandparents visiting Canada with son. Documents needed beside BC?
My son will be visiting my inlaws for two weeks in North Dakota. They may go to Canada for a quick visit. Will they need anything other than his birth certificate at the border?

Get a notarized letter saying you give authorization for them to take him out of the country. I did this when I took my son to Canada and wasn't with my husband. I was not asked for it but due to custody issues I was advised to have it with us. Of course I would have all the usual medical treatment authorizations as well.

My wife took our son to Canada with her recently and was told by AirCanada that documents weren't required. But, they suggested that she carry a letter of authorization from me that included an address/phone number. Given that it wasn't mandatory, I don't know that you need to have it authorized.
BTW, she wasn't asked for it either at Canadian or US immigration. |
Thanks for the replies! I have typed up something and we have a notary in our office, so it will be an easy thing to take care of.
