Grand Wailia Humu restaurant
 

We will be in Maui (first trip) over Thanksgiving and are looking for a nice and/or unusual place to have dinner. Don't want the traditional turkey and need someplace that will appeal to teens. I was thinking about Humuhumunukunukupa'a (sp?) at the Grand Wailia but it looks awfully expensive. Is it worth it? Any other suggestions?

Not recommended. Go next door to Ferraro's on the Beach at the Four Seasons Wailea. Just as expensive but food and service light years better. It's an outside restaurant so you'll dine under the stars, and if you're lucky, a moon!

My SIL had her wedding reception there. The food was fine but was extremely expensive. Plan on spending $$$$ per person.

Definitely try Sarrento's in Wailea area. My husband and I ate there last July and had the best dinner! Beautiful views as well. From start to finish all we said was "yummmm". Reserve an oceanview table right before sunset...

Having dined there several times, my experience is that Humu's can be erratic -- sometimes excellent, sometimes disappointing. Still it is a rather unique restaurant that should be worth a try.

You should also try Capische which is at The Diamond Resort in Wailea. The view is the best on Maui, particularly for spectacular sunsets. The food is wonderful, and I am sure they will have a very special T-day offering.

BTW -- restaurants on Maui will fill up quickly for T-day so make your reservations well in advance.

We have been to Maui many times and eaten at most of the restaurants there. We had never tried Humu's and decided to try it. It was the worst meal we have ever had on the islands. Our fish was so dry it was just about inedible. We had waited well over 45 minutes for our meal to come and our waiter had disapeared on us. We did not return it for fear that we would have to wait 45 minutes more for a new portion to come out. We basically drank our wine, said nothing and never went back.
