Grand Wailea wristband/room question
 

Hi:

We are planning to travel to Maui in late August with our 3 children, 7, 5 and 4. Last time in Maui, we stayed at Kea Lana and LOVED it - decided to try Grand Wailea this time because of the pool and the fact our kids are now great swimmers and will probably enjoy it all.

I've been told that, technically, we need to have a suite or adjoining roooms since there are 5 of us. Is this true? If we "squeeze" in one room - which will be no problem for us - 2 beds and a cot, will we have an issue with wristbands for the pool? Last, we are bringing a sitter with us but she will not be staying at Grand Wailea with us - will it be possible for her to watch our kids at the pool ever - can I give her my wristband for a few hours or get one for her?

Last, I had read the waves are quite choppy in Wailea in August and that it takes swimmers by surprise. IS this true?

I do think you will need 2 rooms or a suite for the 5 of you as they do ask how many people including children will be in your room. No problem getting a wristband as they just ask for your name and room number in my experience.

We visited friends at the Grand Wailea and just went up to the kiosk with their room key and got towels and wrist bands - Bad Eh? I felt guilty doing it and worried we would be checked on but it was no problem.

Our family of 5 stayed at Grand Wailea in June 2012. The hotel staff was very strict about issuing wristbands for the pool area. First, at check-in, they asked for the First & Last names for everyone in our party, and ages. Then, when we went to the pool kiosk to get the wristbands, they required each person to be there, so they could put on the wristbands. This ensures people can't give the bands to someone else. And they noted that each person had received their band for the day. Once I asked if we could cut off the bands for dinner, then come to get a new one later on. They said we could. But when we did this once, they questioned us and made a big deal about it, since we had already gotten our bands for the day. Also, we saw a lot of people get questioned who were even just lounging on chairs and not in the pool. You must have a wristband to be in the pool area period.
