Grand Wailea membership

Has anyone purchased the Grand Wailea membership, and if so, what are your thoughts about it?
Thanks.
Frank

My sister-in-law has it. It works out quite nicely for her as she prefers that hotel in Hawaii & goes there 1-2 times per year. I think with the discount the rooms end up costing around 200/night. She's happy with it but you would have to love the hotel and go there every year to really take advantage of the membership.

How much? Oct 12th, 2002 04:52 PM

How much does the membership cost per year?

I think my sister-in-law paid $200 for stock in their hotel refundable at any time. Has it tanked like the others? I haven't asked.

oops meant $2000 two thousand

I looked into this. It has some apealling qualities but after I read all of the fine print I thought it was too risking. I'm not saying this isn't a good deal just make sure you read and understand fully what you are signing up for.

If it sounds too good to be true (at first blush).....it usually is.

Current fee is $ 2500 with a yearly maintenance fee, currently $ 150 or so.
They offer $ 300 toward your next visits food, etc.
You can get your initiation fee back in 2 years, but there were some strange conditions, like they have to sell at least 2 more or so memberships, and there has to be someone to buy yours.
But you get 50% room rates, which is very substantial at the GW. If you like the place, you may not want to sell it after 2 years. We did a substantial discount without any membership, (not 50%) and a free day.
Lots of pluses and minuses.
Frank

According to their website you can use the membership discount at their other resorts

They are Arizona Biltmore
Hotel Del Coronado
La Quinta in Palm Springs and one other

Does anyone know if this is indeed true where you can use the membership for discounts at the other hotels?

I purchased a membership on December 31st 2011 where I was told annual membership dues would be $150 after the initial $1500 investment (FYI: does not include tax so is actually over $1600). Would have thought I would not receive annual dues invoice till 2013 but low and behold received just weeks after signing up and dues were 33% higher than the contract. Apparently they went up the very next day. Have yet to even step foot on the resort and already feel ripped off. Be leary my friends...
