grand tetons lodging
 

I am interested in lodging near or in Grand Grand teton Park. Would you suggest staying in Jackson hole or in the park? If in the park Jackson Lake Lodges or Snake River? (We have two ten year olds so Jenny lake is out.)

We have stayed at Signal Moutain Lodge three times and we love it. I suggest you take a look at their website. No tour buses there and you are right in the park for easy access to hikes.

Jackson Lake lodge is wonderful and they have cabins for families. Plus many activities depart from this lodge. The back deck is fabulous for watching wildlife.

We stayed in condo in Teton Village this summer - great if you have kids. We got a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, full kitchen unit about 1 mile from Park entrance. Saw moose eating landscaping right outside our unit.

We usually stay at Jackson Lake Lodge and have always been pleased. The kids like the cabins since you have more room. Colter Bay cabins will give you a more "camp-like" experience and are nice as well. We've stayed at the Alpenhof in Teton Village but still prefer Jackson Lake Lodge or Colter Bay since they're in the park. The Jenny Lake cabins are gorgeous and more secluded. The town of Jackson is nice to visit, but if you really want the feel of being in a national park, I'd go for the others.

I have stayed at Jackson Lake Lodge twice, both times in their cottages. Very basic, expensive for what you get, but you are paying for location. As Hilda posted the back deck is fabulous as well as the sitting area with a floor to ceiling picture window facing the Tetons.

I haven't stayed at Signal Mountain Lodge, yet, but I would consider it for my next trip.

Just for clarification, Signal Moutain Lodge is also a cabin configuration. There are two bedroom cabins and one bedroom. A two bedroom would be great with a couple of ten year olds. The lodge is right on the lake and wildlife viewing is a popular evening activity. It is much smaller than the Jackson Lake Lodge. I have eaten at both lodges and prefer the food at Signal Moutain.

I haven't eaten at Signal Mountain Lodge, but I agree that the food at Jackson Lake Lodge isn't the best. I wasn't overly impressed with the Mural Room.

Summer 2005 we made sure our cooler was full and enjoyed sandwiches, chips, fruit and margaritas on our small porch. I think picnicking is the way to go in the national parks.

I would recommend staying in the Park. We stayed at Jackson Lake Lodge and enjoyed it. The view from our patio of the Tetons was great,however, if we ever go back, I would want to stay at Signal Mountain Lodge. We had lunch there on the outside deck overlooking the Lake and marina and it was quite beautiful. The cabins set on the lake and I thought they would be great to stay in.
We had arrived in Jackson Hole a day early so we stayed in town that first night and while it is a cute town and we enjoyed walking it, it is a crowded town and not near as nice as staying amoung nature in the Park.

They are very expensive but, to me, the rooms with a view at Jackson Lake Lodge are a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I agree that park lodging is best.

However, when you or your children need a break from nature and a touch of commercialism ;) check out Ranch Motel in Jackson. Stayed there last summer, enjoyed it and it didn't break the bank (a requisite for long road trips)
