grand tetons- july 2004

for a family of five, 3 adults and a 11 year old and a 9 year old- where would you stay in the grand tetons? we will have only one night as we are coming from 2 nights in yellowstone and then heading for a wagon train trek leaving from jackosn

You will find a lot of votes for Signal Mountain Lodge on this forum. My husband and four other male friends stayed in a "Lakefront Retreat" unit but they have other accomodations for groups your size. Theirs had two beds plus a couch and a kitchenette.

They had great views of Jackson Lake and the Tetons out large windows and from a porch.

Be sure to save your receipt from Yellowstone. It will save you from having to pay another entrance fee in the Tetons.

My son and his family like Signal Mountain Lodge. The Colter Bay place is ok too. The only one you might not want is Jenny Lake Lodge unless $300 a night is in your bugdet.

Melissa,

I don't know what your budget is, but we absolutely loved Colter Bay Village.

Clean, inexpensive, wildlife all over the place. The kids can be kids.

We always stay at the Colter Bay cabins. They are very clean and cute! Squirrels wander all over the place. There are two very good dining options as well. You can rent boats at Colter Marina. Its a great place to stay.

Irishlady,

I forget the name of the restaurant, but it's the buffet place at Colter Bay. If there is such a thing as gourmet meat loaf, they make it there.

Do you know the name?

We stayed in a very nice, large cabin at Colter Bay last year. Once you have determined the dates, try and make reservations as I think you can make them 1 year in advance.

What is the English translation for "grand tetons"

bob_brown Jun 29th, 2003 05:03 PM

The sheer overwhelming beauty of those majestic peaks precludes the need for translation. If you look at them, you will know. If you can't tell then, I think a translation is useless. Putting it into English will turn it into cheap balderdash. But if ....

Frankly, I'm more fascinated by the origins of Beaver Dick's and Pierre's Hole...8^)
