Grand Tetons in June
We will be spending 3 days and nights in the Tetons in early June. Any suggestions on what to do? Regarding hiking, we are interested in relatively short hikes of a few miles each but there are so many to choose from. Thanks.

One classic walk is to take the boat across Jenny Lak, then hike the Cascade Canyon Trail to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. This is close to 4 miles round-trip. The view from the Point is, well, inspiring!
Another choice would be to take the Jackson Hole Tram to the top of the ski area, then hike over to Cody Bowl, about 3-4 miles. There are lots of other trails that lead from the Top of the Tram, but I'm afraid that you will encounter quite a bit of snow on most of these trails in early June. We also liked the Flagg Canyon hike, which leaves from Flagg Ranch. While the trail itself is pretty easy walking, the canyon is very rugged, and you get some good views of the Snake River. You might also consider taking a raft trip down the Snake River. There are 10-mile trips on relatively flat water inside the National Park. They usually go at dawn or dusk for best wildlife viewing (http://www.jacksonholewy.net/scenicn.htm). There are also fun whitewater trips just outside the Park (http://www.jacksonholewy.net/boat&rft.htm). |
Take the ferry across Jenny Lake and do the hike to Inspiration Point, as has been mentioned. The sunsets from the beachside at Signal Mountain Lodge on Jackson Lake are terrific.

Another vote for the tram up at the ski resort.
You can have a snowball fight at the top. Remember suscreen, water, and that the air is thin up there! |
Thanks for all your suggestions and good to hear about the sunsets at Signal Mtn. Lodge since we are staying there. Thanks again!
