Grand Tetons float trip or lake cruise
Will be in the Grand Tetons for two days in mid-August with three kids ages 8 thru 14. Would you recommend a float trip OR a lake cruise on Jackson Lake?
Any other "must see" or "must do" ideas? Thanks. |
About a million years ago I did the float trip with my family..mom, dad, and my two brothers. It was very fun as I recall, very safe, beautiful scenery.
To give you an idea of how long ago, one of the guides was dating Linda Bird Johnson. LOL I think your kids might find the raft trip a little more interesting than cruising Jackson Lake. |
We really enjoyed the evening float trip--supposed to be more animals that time of day but we didn't see any. We went with Triangle X and they fed us a really good meal before the trip. I'd recommend it.

The float trip. With or without wildlife, it is an experience your kids will remember more than the Jackson Lake boat ride. Haven't done the Triangle X, but have read good reviews.

We just did a float trip with Triangle X at the beginning of June. Our guide, Brian, was friendly and professional, and shared a lot of interesting information about the park and what we were seeing as we went.
Stop at one of the visitor centers and ask the ranger where the best places are to see wildlife. You'll see bison, elk, etc. as you're driving, but they will know if there are any don't-miss spots. If you click on my name, you'll find my Grand Teton/Yellowstone trip report. Lee Ann |
We did the float trip on the Snake River last year, which we enjoyed very much - I can't comment on the Jackson Lake cruise, but I assume the river trip would be somewhat more interesting, as I imagine the scenery changes more often. We went with Barker-Ewing, and had a wonderful guide. We were very amused that the waiver we had to sign included a paragraph stating that we wouldn't sue if we were disturbed by any mention by the guide of geologic or evolutionary information that conflicted with our religious beliefs, or if behavior by any wildlife encountered was upsetting. I guess they have to protect themselves from the loonies and easily offended!
