Grand Teton/Yellowstone Float Trips

We will be visiting Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP in late August. Is it necessary to pre-book a float trip, or is there ususally availablity the day before? Any suggestions on a particular company?

we just returned from a float trip on
the snake river. we booked it the day before at jackson lake lodge.
they told us ,however, that the water levels are down that they might not run them in august

Thanks for responding. Did you do a morning or evening trip?

Just did a float trip last week with Triangle X Ranches. It was great. I agree about water levels, as it could be a problem by late August. We had a great experience with them as they float through the park. We were picked up in the Moose Visitor center parking lot and drove about 15 minutes north where they put into the river.

Not having been to the area I wasn't sure where and almost booked with Lewis and Clark Expeditions who float south of the park. For a white water trip in the area, I probably would have used L&C.

We originally wanted to book with Solitude floats (found through NPS website), but they were booked for the day and time we wanted to go. Triangle X had a great guide, Adam, who was very knowledgeable about the river.

We had booked in advance so we could get the time and date we wanted.

I got some of my best pictures of the Tetons on the float. (we went at 9:00 am and there were no clouds covering the mountains. By the end of the float they were a little obscured by clouds.)

Can't help you with Yellowstone, we just went horseback riding there.

Have a good trip.

Hi evelyntrav

I too just got back from the Tetons, and did a float trip. We stayed at Signal Mt. and used their trip. Same strech of water as the other two trips. The best part was they picked us up and dropped us back at Signal Mt. So we did not have to drive anywhere.

Have Fun!

Hi

We will be in YS sept 15th and GT the 20th. I have seen it's been wet and rainy recently. How are the water levels now? Thanks

If there is a problem with the water level, I would suggest you contact Baker-Ewing Company, as they do float trips from numerous launching sites along the river.

We did a float trip with Solitude this past week and it was terrific. The water level was perfect. We took the 5:30 trip as we did not want to be in the hot sun and found it to be an ideal time to go. Important questions to ask the float company you are considering is the number of people on the raft (we were 10) and the amount of planned time on the river even though it does vary with the current flow. We made the reservations two days before the trip.

Thank you to those who responded to my initial post.

Solitude Departs from the Moose Visitor Center which was ideal for us as we explored the nearby area. There is wildlife to be seen along the Moose-Wilson Road especially at the Moose Habitat near the Center.

Thanks evelyntrav!

I have been wondering what the water levels have been. Can't wait for our river adventure!
