grand teton and yellowstone
 

How many days do I need to enjoy Grand Teton and Yellowstone? Have a week before need to be back in Las Vegas.

IMHO you can spend weeks there, but 7 days will give you ample time to explore Yedllowstone and Grand Teton. Try to stay in the parks so you can take advantage of the Ranger programs.

I'd spend 4 days in YellowstonE and 3 in the Tetons.

If by a week you mean 7 days, I would spend 5 in Yellowstone and 2 in Grand Tetons. In this case you might want to spend that extra night in Utah.

If by a week you mean 5 day, then I would spend 4 days in Yellowstone and 1 day at the Grand Tetons.

You're going to get a lot of different answers to how much time to spend in each area, but you will definitly find enought to do in the area for a 7 day week.

Since the Teton is our favorite national park, I always opt for as much time as possible there. However, to be "fair," I'd recommend 4 days in Yellowstone and 3 in the Teton for first-timers.

thanks for the help-can't wait til may. I think I will do 4 days in Yellowstone and maybe 2 days in Grand Teton due to the long drive back.

Also - just a note that you better book lodging RIGHT AWAY (if you can even find any remaining vacancies!). Both these parks get booked very very early.

Yellowstone can be cold in May, but it can also be wonderfully sunny.
I could easily spend 5 days in yellowstone because I like poking around the geyser basins. The complex geology of geyser basins intrigues me, and the fact that geysers even exist is something of a minor miracle.
Most people never stop to think why a geyser erupts. Why does it not just bubble like a hot spring?
I think a big question to answer in the Tetons is this: What do you do other than look at them??

To answer Dixon, you take any number of hikes (at all levels from easy to difficult and short to long distances) and marvel at the incredible scenery! Admittedly, if you aren't going to do any hiking, even the most simple walk, then you can do the Teton very quickly. But, you'll be missing some glorious sights/sites!
Also, there are many opportunities for viewing animals. For example, take a drive down Antelope Flats Road and you'll get closeup views of bison or drive to Oxbow Bend and you're likely to see moose.
The Teton is more than just looking at looking at "them"!
