Grand Hyatt Kauai

Aloha Everyone..
We booked a week mid September with the Sunshine on Sale with Breakfast and I booked the Garden room (hoping to get upgraded).. I am getting remarried there and would love to know what you think about the Hotel and wondering if I should get married on the grounds of the Hotel/Beach or somewhere else close?
I value all you lovely Fodorites opinions..
Thanks!

It's a gorgeous hotel. The grounds are beautiful. We sat near a small wedding party when we ate at Tidepools. I don't know where they got married but I imagine you could find many nice places to do it. We liked the many gliders and hammocks around the grounds.

We stayed there last February and there was a private wedding (just the couple) getting married on the lawn under the gazebo. I just happened to step out onto the patio and see it. It is such a large property that I would think you could find a great place to get married.

We had a great time there. It was not crowded at all and there were hardly any kids. I mention that because friends went in June and said it was kid central which would have made for a very different trip.

Dinner at Tidepools was great and everyone at the hotel was SO nice. We had a 10 pm flight and we had to check out of our room in the afternoon but they stored our luggage and then gave us a room to shower in. That room had a view of the hotel entrance (not fab). I would guess they would upgrade you if they had availability, especially if you get married there. I was surprised at how nice the Hyatt was. I don't mean that in a snooty way, but it was totally on par with the high-end hotels that I have been to.

I forgot to add...try joining the Hyatt Club (sorry can't remember what it is called Gold? Passport?) and then on check in hand them the card also. I think that is how we got an upgrade. Or maybe they were just nice. :-)

I'd ask the Hyatt for recommendations as to where you could be married and request photos.

There are often multiple couples on the beach at twilight a couple hundred feet apart saying vows, also people watching the weddings and/or sunset, kids playing around etc. Not a real private environment. It depends on what you are looking for.

Beaches are for everyone in Hawaii so even if you aren't staying at the Hyatt you can still get married on their beach.

If the surf is rough it is difficult to hear what people are saying and the music (if you want a guitarist etc.) gets drowned out too. It's not called Shipwreck beach for nothing. In September the water should be fairly calm.

I've also seen ministers and couples standing with their backs to the ocean get whammied with big waves. The beach sits on a bit of a bluff but the water still makes it up there. Most people have a good sense of humor about it and are dressed in more casual wedding attire. Some brides get kind of hissy if they haven't taken photos yet.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Hyatt Beach is convenient for you and your guests if you are staying there and your photos will look good almost anywhere you take them on the beach. It's not what I'd call deserted however.

I might go for a gazebo for privacy.

Aloha..
I signed up for the Gold Hyatt Passport Club which enables us to upgrade if available and I made the arrangements with the minister and we have reservations as close to the waterfall at Tidepools Restaurant at the Hyatt..
Can't wait!
Thanks everyone for your wonderful input and look forward to having fun and playing golf and partying with my husband and my goofballs friends...
Mahalo
