Grand Hyatt Hotel-San Francisco

The Grand Hyatt at Union Square doesn't seem to be listed in the current Fodor's 2001 San Francisco edition. I've booked it for a June business trip, and wonder why it's not covered? The guide lists the Park Hyatt on Battery, the Hyatt at Embarcadero Center and at Fisherman's Wharf. Anyone had a recent experience at the Grand Hyatt? Good/bad/indifferent? Thanks.

Stayed there last Fall and thought the location was great. A block above Union Square, convenient to Chinatown and North Beach. It was small for a Hyatt, the Embarcadero fits better with my visual image of the chain, but it was nice. If you have a good rate I think you will be happy with it.

Normally I stay out in the Union Street (Cow Hollow) area, but when staying there three nights just before this past Christmas, decided to stay at the Grand Hyatt at Union Square. The location is, of course, great, and our room was very recently redone and quite nice -- certainly nicer and larger that rooms we've had at the Campton Place across the street. Also we had purchased four tickets (on our own) for Beach Blanket Babylon and two friends were unable to join us at the last minute, so the concierge at the Grand Hyatt sold them for us at full value. Cocktails in the "roof" lounge are very nice, and you can't beat a quick breakfast at Starbucks right across the street, or a wonderful full breakfast about a block away at Kuleto's.

I would consider the Grand Hyatt an average property within the Hyatt chain. We were very satisfied with our room. They also have a great room service menu! You can't beat the location and you can pick up a cable car right behind the hotel. Otherwise we walked everywhere from the hotel. The concierge desk is one of the best. They managed to get us last minute reservations, on two occasions, at very busy and excellent restaurants. They know the city well and use their connections to their guests' advantage.

Hi-We stayed in two rooms at the Grand Hyatt in August of 97. Walking distance to great shopping and chinatown, very nice rooms although not extremely large, pretty good service. If you have to pay for the room yourself, they offer half price with the entertainment card when available.
