Grand Cayman
 

Looking for reviews of Grand Cayman. Specifically, has anyone been to the Cayman Kai area. Is there still hurricane damage? What is the area like?

I've stayed in Cayman Kai PRE hurricane, but understand that part of the island fared better than 7 mile beach area.

As far as a place to stay, we went with another couple, had a house on the property and it was absolutely fantastic. Walked out of the house onto the beach. Very private. The beach was lovely with snorkeling beginning just a few yards from the shore in knee deep water! Our own private cat (Blanche LeBlanc :) ) came to visit us every evening for her treats. She must have found softies in that house many a time before.

The drawback is that if you are looking for getting around to various restaurants and shopping in town, its one heck of a drive in, over a not-so-hot road. Our house had a full kitchen, we brought some food with us and shopped at the grocery before going out to the house. We seldom left it after that.

We've been back to Cayman and stayed on 7 Mile Beach on our next trip, but I prefer the laid back quiet of the Cayman Kai area.

We went on a cruise Last Feb. and one of the Ports of Call was Grand Cayman, 7 mile beach area, and the area was pretty damaged by the storms, but the area is still so beautiful

Just got back a week ago. There is still the ocassional building that has damaged and there are some spots where plywood still covers windows, but the vast majority of the island is back to normal. You will see spots along the island that have huge piles of tree stumps, branches and other debris (some of these piles are almost as big as a house), but there's nothing to dampen you time in Cayman. Go, it's still the best place in the region IMHO.
