Grand Canyon to Palm Springs
I am thinking about taking the family out west next June/July. Maybe flying into Phoenix, renting a car and driving to the Grand Canyon for 3 days. Then driving to Palm Springs for 1 week, and then driving back to Phoenix to fly home. I have access to the Marriott Vacation International property in Palm Springs.

Advice please - Am I nuts? Is this too much driving or not? Is it too hot in Palm Springs in June/July?

Ed, there's not alot going on in Palm Springs during the dates you mentioned...it is very hot and some of the restaurants and stores are closed...you can get a great deal on accomodations at that time, though.

Thanks. I thought Palm Springs may be a nice place for me, my wife and 2 kids. I thought we could hang by the pool in afternoons, maybe do a little exploring in the mornings, and relax in the evenings. Or maybe we would be better off driving over to the coast, say San Diego? What do you think?

Very few stores and restaurants close down for the summer in Palm Springs anymore. There's a pretty large year round population. Lots of casinos in the desert area to enjoy. You could also think about flying out of Palm Springs airport.

San Diego would be such a better place for kids!

Not too much driving. Depending on your children's ages, I think San Diego would be more fun.
