Grand Canyon the week between Xmas /New Year?

I have the week off between Xmas and New years and was wondering if anyone has gone this time of year. I assume the North Rim would be closed? Is just the S. Rim worthwhile? Could we also do a couple of snow days in Flagstaff or is it not that cold yet? Thanks for any advice.

The North Rim is closed in the winter. The South Rim is open. Since you are at a high elevation both in the Canyon and Flagstaff you can expect snow.

My sister hike down to the bottom on New Year's day a few years ago and she said there was ice on the trail in several places. She was able to do it though.

It's been snowing in Flagstaff and the ski area is supposed to open up the middle of Dec.
