Grand Canyon South Rim
We will be spending 2 days in the south rim in February. We are staying just outside the park, south rim and am wondering what day hikes would be best. My husband and I are avid hikers so advanced to easy hikes would be nice. Any advice/tips would be great. Thanks.

First, I'd recommend you try to get lodging inside the park rather than just outside (I'm assuming that means Tusayan). There should be availability in February and it is so much more convenient.
The easiest hike is to just walk along the rim trail.
More difficult is South Kaibab - you would probably need crampons for the top section. The views are very good once you get about a mile down from the rim. Hike as far as you feel comfortable knowing that the return hike up is going to be a lot more difficult.
Hike down Bright Angel to Indian Gardens, and then hike to Plateau Point from there. The hike from Indian Gardens to Plateau Point is mostly flat and relatively easy, with a great view at the end. But the Bright Angel trail is nowhere near as scenic as South Kaibab.
Even more difficult would be a loop going down the South Kaibab, then taking the Tonto trail west to Indian Gardens and going back up to the rim via Bright Angel. The increased difficulty would be due to the extra distance.
Most difficult would be going to the river and back in one day. You obviously wouldn't need to worry about heat stress/exhaustion but it is very strenuous.

Definitely go to www.nps.gov and check out the Park SErvice brochure on the Grand Canyon South Rim. Lots of great info. Hiking poles are very helpful for the knees on the downhill and help lift you up on the up hill!! You will want to bring yak trax for hiking at the top of the trails--snow and ice, but it will go away quickly as you descend. I would not do down to the river and back in one day--ugh. And the South Kaibab, Tonto, up Bright Angel would be a long day hike. Are you used to some altitude? I have hiked with people who were in better shape but they were from either the west or east coast and used to sea level. 5500+ feet can be pretty exhausting and thus you want to give yourself more time. Alot of hiking is going to be dependent on trail conditions--I would definitely check in with the rangers before heading anywhere.
Have fun--it is a gorgeous place to hike. I have done many trails and Bright Angel is one of my favorites!
