Grand Canyon, North, South, or West?
 

We are taking a day trip from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Can anyone help us decide if we should travel to the North, South, or West rim. I'm reading that the North rim is a further drive. Is anyone familar with the West rim and the skywalk? Is it worth the $$? Thanks a bunch!

Have you done a search on this board to read the multiple threads with lots of input on the GC? A few minutes time reading what's already here would probably help you make the decision. Only you can decide if the Skywalk is worth $75pp.

I've been to the North & South rim, but never to the West Rim. The West Rim is NOT in the National Park but on Indian land. I've seen pictures...and it's just not the same as the N. or S. Rim. That said, it's the closest.


I recommend the South Rim because of it's sweeping views for the first timer. It's a long days drive at 560 miles and almost 10 hours of driving round trip to the South Rim and to the N. Rim it's only 530 miles round trip but if you get stuck behind a motorhome you're looking at 11 - 13 hours travel time. If you decide on either the N. or S. Rim, I'd suggest spending one night on the road.

If you have limited time, then I'd say make a day trip to Zion National Park instead of the Grand Canyon. 330 miles round trip and 5 1/2 to 6 hours driving time.

Driving from Vegas, I'd go to the South Rim of the GC. There are threads here about the Skywalk if you do a search. Good luck with the planning! :)

We do have very limited time in Vegas. We will be there 5 days and 4 nights. We were thinking of one day drive to Grand Canyon and one day drive to either Zion or Bryce. I have been searching and reading this board. I also have been asking lots of questions. Thanks to everyone's replies! It sure helps to have helpful advice.

If you are planning on a trip to Zion and Bryce, the north rim of the Grand Canyon would make more sense. It's about 125 miles from Springdale at the entrance to Zion to the north rim.

As a guide, the drive from Las Vegas to Sout Rim is about 5 hours. The drive from Las Vegas to Zion is about 2 1/2 hours.

I agree, if you are planning a trip to Zion and Bryce then you can save yourself some driving by doing the N. Rim. I really recommend two nights on the road to do this, but if you only want to get a glimps of each park it could be done with one night on the road. Round trip this is about 500 miles.

Las Vegas, Zion, Bryce, N. Rim, Las Vegas is 670 miles and plan on a total of 17 hours of driving.

Las Vegas, Zion, Bryce, Las Vegas is just under 500 miles and about 10 hours driving.

Las Vegas, South Rim, Las Vegas is 560 miles round trip and about 10 hours driving.
