Grand Canyon-March 24
 

My husband and I have planned to spend 10 days in Grand Canyon. We are both warm weather and nature lovers. Can anybody give me any tip regarding the weather for end of March? We are trying to book accommodation and check for places to eat. Any suggestion for these? We would like to have some comfort (our own bath), breakfast included, but not to spend more than 70 US$/night. Does anybody have a good plan for 10 days in Grand Canyon ? We love hiking - moderate difficulty trails. Thanks.

If you love warm weather, the Grand Canyon in March is not the place for you.

At least you are going at the end of March. You can still run into snow during March!

For 10 days, I'd spend 3 nights at Grand Canyon, 1 or 2 nights at Page, AZ and do the Rainbow Bridge National Monunument boat tour & 3 mile hike, Antelope Slot Canyon tour, and 3/4 mile Horseshoe Bend Hike. 1 night at Bryce because the trails will probably still closed due to snow, and 3 nights at Zion. Lots of wonderful hikes of all ranges at Zion.

If you do this, I'd start from Las Vegas and do a circle.

We always camp so I can't advise on lodging.

if you go into the canyon, it can be considerably warmer than the top. Years ago I went to Havasu Canyon over Easter. I camped at the top and really froze - my feet didn't thaw out until I was well down the canyon. At the bottom, it was warm enough to swim in the creek.

I have enjoyed all six of my visits to the Canyon, including two trips to the bottom, and would go tomorrow if I got the chance.

HOWEVER, unless you are into VERY difficult hiking, ten days at the Canyon is far too long. A day and a half will be more than enough to drive to all the overlooks, a half day to hike the Rim Trail, and then another day to hike down (and back up) the Bright Angel Trail; will be more than adequate for a first visit.

UtahTea (as usual) gives an excellent itinerary for a ten day trip to the area.

I can't emphasize the importance of staying within the National Park to get the full experience of the Canyon. Going to the Canyon without viewing a sunrise and sunset would be like art lovers going to Paris but skipping the Louvre!

From what I can see, $70 for two with a private bath is possible, but none of the lodgings include any meals.

Nor do any of the Park lodgings have mini-kitchen, etc. so you can not do breakfast yourself.
