Grand Canyon Lodging

Hello, I'm a Philadelphian who will be spending a couple nights of my honeymoon in mid-May in the Grand Canyon. It was highly recommended to me to stay at El Tovar, but they were all booked. Consequently, I reserved a "rim cabin" from the Bright Angel Logde. They claim they are "rustic, but nice." My fiance is VERY concerned about the cabin's accomodations. Can anyone please give me the straight dope on the cabins at the Bright Angel Lodge. All responses are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks, John.

The Bright Angel Lodge is within a stone's throw of the El Tovar. It is much newer and much more modern. Try to get one of their rooms overlooking the canyon, the north side of the lodge. It is a motel-like structure, not cabins. Like all the other accommodations, it is run by the Fred Harvey Company, which is the franchisee for lodging within Grand Canyon National Park.
John
I don't know anything about Bright Angel but when I visited the grand canyon I was also told El Tovar was booked but we checked when we got there and there was availability. They took care of cancelling our other reservation. Also make a reservation at the El Tovar Restuarant if you haven't already. It get's booked pretty far advance simply because it's the only restaurant at the rim (the other place to eat is more like a cafeteria).

The Bright Angel does have rustic cabins, but last time we stayed in one, it was very nice and I am not into rustic. Al was speaking of the Thunderbird Lodge which is preferable and booked through Bright Angel. I would also agree to check with El Tovar or Bright Angel at check in time for cancellations. We always stay at Thunderbird Lodge, rooms facing the canyon and very modern motel-like rooms. You can eat at either Bright Angel or El Tovar.
