Grand Canyon in November??
 

We're thinking of a trip to Arizona in mid-November. Is the weather still nice to visit the Grand Canyon at that time?? Also, what city would you recommend we stay in. We don't mind a 1 to 2 hour drive to the Grand Canyon. Thanks for your help.

I recommend staying in Flagstaff. It is a nice drive to GC. The weather may be a bit cool, but lots of nice restaurants and a wide choice of places to stay all at reasonable prices.

Flagstaff is a good base camp if you're visiting Grand Canyon, but you should still be able to get a room at the South Rim. How long are you in AZ? There's a lot of great stuff around Flagstaff to visit, but if you are looking for warm weather it might not be the best place to stay for an extended period. Highs in mid-November probably average in the lower 50s, if not a bit colder.

At 7,000' elevation, the south rim can have snow at any time of the year, and of course there's a good chance in November. But the nice thing about it snowing here is that when it's done, the sun comes out, the sky is blue, and the canyon is gorgeous. Not at all the grey winter you'd experience in the midwest or east coast.

Be prepared for cold mornings and evenings, but if the sky is clear it does get nice in the afternoons.

There are hotels inside the park, and you can avoid the hour and a half each way trip to Flagstaff, or the hour each way trip to Williams. Since the days will be shorter, staying in the park lets you enjoy a sunset and sunrise without having to make a long drive in the dark. The NPS website has more information at www.nps.gov/grca.

By the way, NPS has revamped all of their websites, so take a look at your favorite park's site, and see what you think!

One of my children visited there in early December a few years ago. Cold temps, snow on the ground.

November sounds like a great time!:)
