Grand Canyon in February?? Doable?
I had asked for help deciding on a location for my family vacation in July. It was between AZ and CO. We have chosen CO, mostly due to the weather (and crowds). Sooooo, I have another 6 days I can take in February and was wondering how the Grand Canyon is to visit in mid Feb.? It would just be my husband and me. We would fly into Las Vegas, stay a couple days (he's never been) and then drive to AZ. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Average low Temps in Feb are in the teens to low 20's.

Expect the rim area to be snow covered. Temps will be warmer as you descend into the canyon, but you should be prepared for icy trails near the top. Spikes for your hiking shoes would be a must if you plan to hike below the rim.

Even mules go down Bright Angel trail in the winter
Ensure you stay overnight at Phantom Ranch

Bottom temp of canyon is equvalent to Pheonix Az.

The Grand Canyon is beautiful with snow, but it will be cold in February. (I've been in March, and it was very nice.) Definitely doable, but you may want to consider spending more of that time in the Vegas area. You can always tour the Hoover Dam, which is interesting, too.

Average high is 45, average low is 21. It's very doable. Spend a couple nights there and a couple in Sedona.

2 days in Vegas is more than enough. Any extra time you have after GC, 2 days are enough for south rim, explore the surrounding area, Vermillion cliffs to see the incredible California Condors, Page to see horseshoe Bend and lower Antelope Canyon, both are very close by to GC. If you have any time left after that, head east to Monument Valley or north to Escallante.
