Grand Canyon

Newbie to Fodor's messaging and looking for some advice from you experienced users/travellers.

My husband and I are considering a trip to the Grand Canyon this Spring. Willing to consider a tour group, but could do without the extremely cheesy/touristy type. We are in our early 30's and looking for something authentic and adventurous. Could anyone recommend a reputable adventure group, that caters to small groups and upscale (meaning no camping if possible).
Thanks in advance.

Is there a reason you want to go with a tour group verse visiting on your own?

Also beware that it still snows in early spring at the Grand Canyon. You might want to wait until May.

I wouldn't do a tour group..just my opinion...March is great there..could be a snow..but have been there a few times then and it was great..am coats but by afternoon it was beautiful...and hiking would be cooler...top of Bright Angel was a little icy in the am but fine by afternoon..2 day mule trip was great...warmer at the bottom..and alot more tolerable at bottom in spring...there are bus and helicopter tours from vegas..and I'm sure something like Globus w/other sights to see along w/it...like Yellowstone etc. as a package...why not fly to Phx or Vegas and hit Sedona/and area too...

We have gone with many tour groups, but went to GC by ourselves. Stayed at El
Tovar, went with several free Ranger hikes, walked down part of the canyon, took the mules overnight, drove around the area. I agree that it GC can be done very well by yourselves. ((L))

What type of activities are you looking for? Hiking, riding, walking, rafting?

Dear KrazyK:
The Grand Canyon is very user friendly. We are going this summer. We will go to the railway and ride the train into the park. It is very easy to get around and find the things you need to see. I would worry that a group might be on the older side.
