Gourmet Grocery Stores in Chicago

While eating out in a nice restaurant is enjoyable while on vacation, some days you just don't feel like it. My family is fond of wraps and specialty foods that can be brought back to the hotel, on occasion. Any suggestions of markets that fit the bill in downtown Chicago? Or Cafes that also serve light fare? Thanks

What a great idea - thank you. We love the Symphony! Thanks for the websites. Any ideas on how to obtain Cubs tickets? I was told by the box office that perhaps they will release some tickets the day before or day of the game - what do you think the chances are of that? Right now I'm keeping tabs on Ebay and hoping I don't have to sell one of my kids to get them :) (of course that is a joke)

Fox and Obel on Illinois St. on the way to Navy Pier.
3 big blocks east of Michigan Ave.

Huge specialty deli and pre made meals.

You might also try L'Appetito, an italian deli located underneath the John Hancock building. They have a variety of sandwiches and salads available for takeout, along with a small selection of grocery items, baked goods, coffee, etc.

Not sure where you are staying but there is a Whole Foods on State & Huron and another L'Appetito at Wabash & Huron.

We have not yet decided; either North Michigan Ave. or West Wacker Drive. Are Whole Foods or L'Appetito in the vacinity?

...leaning towards W. Wacker.

Not sure where you would be staying on West Wacker. But Wacker runs along the river and they are both probably about 1/2 mile north of the River. I can't think of any grocery stores that are south of the river but you might be close to a Corner Bakery which has good salads and sandwiches.
