Gouldings in Monument Valley Sold Out-Where Else?
 

Do you have any suggestions for good hotels (other than Gouldings which is already full) when visiting Monument Valley? Two adults, no children, looking for some place nice and in a good location. Thanks!

There is not much in the way of lodging near Gouldings. You may want to try Kayenta, AZ where there is a Hampton Inn, a Holiday Inn, and perhaps some independents.

Mexican Hat is about 20 miles north - San Juan Inn
Kayenta is abouit 20 miles south - Wetherill Motel, Holiday Inn.

I am just back from AZ (3 hours ago ;-) ).
I stayed one night at the hampton inn in Kayenta. about 30 minutes away from Monument valley.
It was very confortable. The free breakfast was great, lots of cereales, fruit, danishes, breads, coffee, juices.
There is a small swimming pool.
The only bad thing was the free coffee in the room, it wasn't good at all, but there was some good one in the lobby all day long.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Kayenta which is kind of pricey but as you are finding out there are not many options. You probably will have a hard time getting a reservation there too.I kept calling until there was a cancellation.

At about 30 to 40 minutes from Monument Valley, Bluff in Utah has some interessant lodges : desert rose , 5 years old and for someone who is looking for an "atmosphere" the Recapture Lodge(rooms at 52 $, with pool
and spa) : there is something in this lodge very particular. Bluff is a good
base "camp" to visit the area : monument valley is near, there is some
rafting possibilities(wildriver tour) and more(Farout expedition has very good ideas like "archeologic days" in
the canyons near Bluff or in grand Gulch primitive area.They have a web site and if you can have Jay as guide, t's a top...we were here on week ago and the day in Grand Gulch was unforgettable in sightseeing, in hiking and in indian ruins and petroglyph...
In Monument valley, Keyah Ozonhy tour is perfect(try to got Tom Jones or Alex
to explain a lot of thingds about utilisation of plants for eating, make
sandals,...).
It was our 4th. trip in this area and we'll have always the same pleasure to
go there and to visit with these guys...

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Recapture Inn in Bluff. As mentioned Bluff is a good location for many activities in the area, and is an interesting town, too. We went in early October and the weather was great -- cool enough for hiking.
