placeu2: But would you have worn the new flipflops w/shells glued to them while you swept the tent and placed the welcome mat? I hope GoTravel got a picture of that.
And the extra three chairs were for the possibility that three other camping guys would wander by and want to tailgate and listen to the game w/you. Not sure about the extra big tent though...
At least you didn't have a camping stove that exploded. That happened to me once, and that was the last time I went camping.

Fodorite018 Nov 15th, 2004 12:05 PM

What a hoot!!! Glad you are still up for camping. I don't think you want MY hints though...we do the backpack thing and hike miles in to the woods to camp.

Where do you think you will go on the next adventure?

placeu2 Nov 15th, 2004 12:52 PM

emd...not to step on GoTravel's post here but...yes I would.

Although I would be more likely to top that off with an ensemble similar to what Tony Soprano wears when he gets the morning paper from the driveway.

rb_travelerxATyahoo Nov 15th, 2004 01:34 PM

That's camping???

OK, if you want to try again without taking all the junk, do some "self-contained" bicycle camping ... where you bicycle to your destination with all supplies on the bicycle. You'll certainly learn to cut back on luxuries when it's your own horsepower transporting it.

How long will it take for Mr. GoTravel to cook the turkey on the open fire? How many wood trips do you think he will have to make? :D

I enjoyed your trip report. I can't wait to read about your Thanksgiving adventure!

>>GoTravel has had two glasses pinot grigio at this point. <<

Only two?? I admire your patience! :-D

mms- if one of your hints is about the dog carrying a pack, give it :D
I love that...the Pup will wear his own little backpack if we ever go hiking with him.
I will still hike but there is little likelihood of my going to sleep in a tent again..no matter how careful you are, there are things crawling out there and they want to sleep with you!!

OO Nov 15th, 2004 01:56 PM

TOO FUNNY GoTravel. I'm also laughing at my suggestion that you go to Cumberland Island! LOL DON'T--you'd sink the dang ferry, and if not, they'd have to hire a building inspector just so you could set up housekeeping for the night! :)

Fodorite018 Nov 15th, 2004 01:57 PM

LOL Scarlet!!!! Actually...we take our pup when we do the easier trips...and yes, she has her own pack! She has to haul her food, her water and her towel. The most we have taken her though is 12 miles. She is pampered and sometimes gets to sleep in the tent with us...which is a big deal since its a 2 person tent. If you want to see the pack, go to www.ruffwear.com and check out the Palisades II pack. See...if you move our here to OR I will have to take you along on one of our trips:)

Scarlett Nov 15th, 2004 01:59 PM

mms, I can't wait to see you and to be in Portland, but you don't want to have me along for a hike or camping.
I am a whiner. I am a good cook and tell good stories, but I whine.
I'll let you take Tate instead LOL
((L))

Fodorite018 Nov 15th, 2004 02:09 PM

Scarlett--maybe Tate still needs a pack though...he can LOOK like a hiker, lol!

Fodorite018 Nov 15th, 2004 02:13 PM

Scarlett--forgot something...you could with me on our girls spa week! We just got back last night from that:)

Scarlett Nov 15th, 2004 02:27 PM

mms, tell me about it !! :D

Fodorite018 Nov 15th, 2004 02:44 PM

Scarlett--I sent you an email so I wouldn't hijack GoTravels thread:)

xyz99 Nov 15th, 2004 04:11 PM

GoTravel, this is soooo funny, thanks for the laugh!!
Waiting for the Thanksgiving report - should we expect it to be 4 times funnier? I can't imagine how that would be possible :)

BuffaloGirl Nov 16th, 2004 05:52 AM

GoTravel, that was hysterical. Did he really buy a welcome mat?

I give you credit.....I hate camping. My motto is "I love spending the day in the great outdoors and the evening in the great indoors."

GoTravel Nov 16th, 2004 05:53 AM

rb, baby steps, baby steps. Can't get all eco/adventure/serious camper at once. How would I get my case of pinot grigio on the bike?

easytraveler Nov 16th, 2004 07:34 AM

"How would I get my case of pinot grigio on the bike?"

By all means, drink it first. :-d

Great fun, GoTravel! Thanks a mil for the laughs! :)

What a great report Go! I believe that wood is a particular fetish of most men. The amount that DH buys on our camping trips would be put to better use building a small two bedroom home on the site than the usual result which manages to be a conflagration that can be seen from space and yet be smoky enough to cure ham. I think that the welcome mat was a good touch though. Your tent sounds like you could have plenty of guests and I'm sure you want to be good hosts.
